The Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Challenge

Known as innovators and admired for their collaborations with visual artists, OK Go are challenging fresh filmmaking talent to take part in this year's Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Challenge and demonstrate how they can use innovative techniques to conceive and execute a music video for OK Go's brand new track.

This is an incredible opportunity to create a groundbreaking piece of work for a global band and to take the medium of music video to a whole new level.

If you're chosen as the Grand Prize Winner, your video will be screened at this year's legendary Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors' Showcase in Cannes, as well as appear on the Talenthouse site, and OK Go's own website. It could even be used as the official video for this track.

Using OK Go's brand new track (yes, brand new track) 'I'm Not Through', produce an amazing music video and simply submit by clicking on 'Participate' on this page.

And don't forget to read the Guidelines and Official Rules.
There will be 2 phases of judging. First, from all submissions received, 10 finalists will be selected and highlighted at the beginning of June. The second phase will be the judging and announcement of the Grand Prize Winner on June 20th, 2013 in Cannes. The judging panel will consist of the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board, BUG and Damian Kulash, from OK Go, who will be instrumental in helping select the winning video.

Of all the superlatives ever thrown at OK Go, “world’s most creative band” might fit best. Theirs is a project of the modern age, defined by vision as opposed to boundaries. It starts with a growing canon of infectious songs (the band’s fourth album is forthcoming), and explodes out from there into a million creative endeavors: their videos are art projects that the whole world sees; their live shows are immersive and surprising; their free time is invested in apps and op-eds and a host of other experiments that all fall under fun, ambitious, or just really cool to try.

A special note to new directors: the last two OK Go videos played at Cannes won 7 Lions combined and one of them debuted on the Super Bowl. So, no pressure.

Saatchi & Saatchi is famous for the legendary New Directors’ Showcase, screened each year at The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity since 1991. It’s a demonstration of Saatchi & Saatchi’s commitment to identifying, nurturing and spotlighting new creative talent.

Many past featured directors have gone on to seriously successful careers. Tarsem, Michel Gondry, Mark Romanek, Spike Jonze, Ivan Zacharias, Kinka Usher, Danny Kleinman and Jonathan Glazer included.

The New Directors’ Showcase is the best attended event at the Festival after the Award Shows.

The official winner will be invited to a full week at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June this year, where the winner’s film will be screened and winner announced. And there’s the opportunity to meet Damian Kulash, from OK Go.
People can vote on all submissions, so make sure they vote for yours. The People's Choice will be announced based on the highest number of social votes and the filmmaker will enjoy publicity across Talenthouse and OK Go’s channels, plus a fan pack including music, merchandise, and tickets to an OK Go concert, subject to availability.

BUG: The Evolution of Music Video

BUG began in April 2007 as a series of bi-monthly shows at BFI Southbank in London – the home of British cinema. These celebrations of global creativity in music video have since become a phenomenon, as popular and brilliant as the visual ideas which the BUG team unearths. Hosted by the inimitable Adam Buxton – comedian, writer, broadcaster, video director, general music video enthusiast and YouTube comment wrangler – the BUG live shows promise a set of awe-inspiring music videos rarely seen on a big screen (or even a TV screen), astounding online nuggets and a unique brand of sit-down comedy.

As well as the bi-monthly residency at the BFI Southbank – now their most popular regular strand – BUG has hosted shows at Edinburgh Festival, Sydney Festival, VimeoFestival in New York, Eurobest in Amsterdam and all over the UK in arts cinemas and music, comedy and film festivals. BUG also provides consultancy to its partners including Saatchi & Saatchi and Sony Music.


The official judging panel will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.
From all of the qualifying entries, a shortlist will be compiled by representatives of Saatchi & Saatchi and BUG Music Videos. From this shortlist, the selection of 10 Finalists, one of which will be the Grand Prize Winner, will be made by representatives of the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board, OK Go and BUG Music Videos.
  • The ability of the director to execute an idea on screen
  • An innovative technique or style
  • Outstanding directorial skill
  • The Music Video Challenge is open to directors of all film formats and styles who are over the age of 18.
  • Directors are only eligible for consideration if they directed their first 'film specifically made for advertising purposes' after June 2011, but they may have directed all other formats for longer. The term 'film specifically made for advertising purposes' is defined as any moving image commissioned with either production or media funded by an advertiser. By submitting their work, directors are confirming their eligibility. Finalists will be asked to sign an agreement confirming their eligibility before they can be announced.
  • Filmmakers should download the track from the link on this page. Please note that the track is only permitted to be downloaded for the express use of participation in the Saatchi & Saatchi Music Video Challenge and any other use is strictly prohibited.
  • Your film must be an original work created by you and inspired by the OK Go track ‘I’m Not Through’. It cannot be a film that you (or any other person) have previously submitted to any other contest or broadcast on television or over the internet.

  • Films cannot exceed the length of the track by more than 10 seconds.The entire track, without modification, must be synced to the moving pictures.
  • Your entry may not contain:
    • any third party copyrighted works
    • any third party trademarks or logos
    • any obscene or pornographic material
    • any material that infringes the right of publicity, or invade the privacy of any person
  • Participants must submit their video to YouTube, Vimeo, Muzu or GoAnimate then paste the video URL and click 'Get Video' below.
  • All entries must be submitted and fully uploaded to the site by 10:00 PST on May 21st, 2013 to be eligible.
  • You must include a description about your submission.
