This November 24, exclusively in movie theaters, it’s time to witness the true origin of Evil...

To amplify the launch of the film Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. (SPE) is creating an art activation leading up to the film’s release and they want to collab with YOU!!

Artists, graphic designers and illustrators from around the world are invited to create one-of-a-kind digitally illustrated static artwork inspired by the trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City.

We’d like you to bring Raccoon City and its characters to life by creating legendary poster artworks that showcase the original franchise and the origin of Evil. We want you to introduce new fans and life-long fans alike to the world of Resident Evil.

Imagine you are a resident in Raccoon City and this is your opportunity to show the world what Resident Evil is all about - just keep it scary and keep it FUN! The artwork should portray the movie first and foremost as a horror film.

A total of Five [5] works will be selected by Sony Pictures. Selected Creators will receive $2,000 in exchange for their works, which will potentially be featured on social media, physical posters, or used as digital art to promote the film.
  • Please include the following key themes in your submission:
    • You are encouraged to showcase a variety of zombies and monsters, prioritizing non-zombie monsters especially.
    • Show a dynamic team coming together to save the town from Umbrella Corp.
    • Include key moments from the Official Trailer.
    • Your work should balance a dark horror tone with elements of big screen worthy action.
  • Please submit your work according to the following specifications:
    • Your work should be digitally illustrated—please no photography!
    • High resolution layered PSD file – min 300DPI resolution
    • You are encouraged to submit timelapse videos of your creation process as well!
  • Your work should appeal to the following audiences:
    • Global audiences, ages 17+
    • Your work should be recognizable to original franchise fans yet enticing to new fans of Resident Evil

  • You are permitted to feature talent likeness of the main cast members of Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City according to the following instructions:
    • Donal Logue cannot be used alone in artwork.
    • If any talent is used, artwork must also include Kaya Scodelario and Hannah John-Kamen.
    • Robbie Amell must be included if Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, and another 3rd talent are depicted.
    • If Kaya Scodelario and Hannah John-Kamen only, no other talent is required in artwork.
    • Please do not use Milla Jovovich.
  • DO utilize the following assets provided in our Brief Materials Folder:
    • Visual Assets - Stills from the movie for inspiration
    • Official Title Treatment

  • DO draw inspiration from the Official Trailer.

  • DO NOT use old Resident Evil title treatments and logos from the past films.
  • DO NOT reference any cast members from the previous Resident Evil films.
  • DO NOT use artwork from previous films as well or artwork directly from the game.
  • DO NOT use third-party artwork or stock images in your piece.
  • DO NOT feature the likeness of individuals, except those whose likenesses are cleared for the purposes of this brief.
    • Your poster should be “evergreen” and if it features people, it should feature nondescript people (whose likenesses are cleared for use in perpetuity) who would help Umbrella convey a trusting and safe image
  • DO NOT submit artwork that contains any obscene, profane, or lewd reference or that defames any public figure, celebrity, or religion.
  • DO NOT make any references to any alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or drug paraphernalia in your work.
  • DO NOT feature any of the following imagery in your work:
    • Tall Oaks T-shirt
    • Please avoid using featured background images inside the police station.
    • Please avoid using depictions of any branded or copyrighted items or materials aside from anything that’s more akin to Umbrella or the Resident Evil franchise.
  • Firearms can be utilized in a manner similar to the movie poster, provided the firearm is part of the character.

  • DO NOT depict firearms in the following manner:
    • pointed at an another person which includes within visual ‘cross hares’
    • pointed directly “at camera/audience”
    • to inflict injury such as a ‘pistol whipping’

  • Please DO NOT post your work on social media until after the Selected Creator Announcement, approximately November 4, 2021.

Returning to the origins of the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games to life for a whole new generation of fans. In Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.


Five (5) winners will be chosen by Sony Pictures. These Selected Creators will:

  • Potentially have their works used in social media, physical posters, or used as digital art to promote the film.
  • Receive $2,000.

  • Who is eligible: This opportunity is open globally with restrictions (See Official Rules for sanctioned countries) to those who are at least 18 years of age and the age of majority at the time of entry. Void where prohibited by law.
  • Limit ten (10) submissions per creator.
  • Creators should retain their original artwork files in the highest quality possible but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max. size 10MB.
  • All submissions must be original artwork which is not inspired by or based on third-party artwork (and may not contain third party materials or intellectual property and/or stock materials, and must be free-and-clear of any and all third-party rights). Please, no photography or video.
  • Creators may depict the Umbrella logo and other relevant film thematic elements. All rights in and to the material provided and all derivative works thereof are reserved by Sony Pictures Entertainment.
  • Non-Selected Creator's shall have a license from Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. to utilize the artwork for use in the individual’s portfolio and social posts to display their participation in this contest. Sony Pictures Entertainment will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide all creators with credit for their artwork.
  • Submissions will not be visible to the public until after the announcement.
  • We advise you to carefully read the "Things to Consider" section above.

  • Selected Creators (defined in Official Rules found below) may be asked to modify their artwork to fit production requirements. Failure to modify may be a forfeit of their Selected Creator status and the associated prize.
  • Each Entrant shall accept the Assignment and Release Form and assign to Sony Pictures Entertainment and their licensees all rights, title, and interest in and to the Entrant's submitted artwork. Selected Creators will also be required to sign an Assignment and Release Form and an Awardee Agreement.
  • Entrants may make only personal non-commercial use (e.g. portfolio purposes, social channels) of the submissions without express written consent from Sony Pictures Entertainment. In no event, may an entrant obtain a fee, royalty, advertising revenue, or any other payment for the art created pursuant to this Contest.
  • Please provide an active email address when registering with Talenthouse to ensure you can be contacted should you be selected.
  • During the selection period, Talenthouse will reach out to potential winners. You must respond to Talenthouse within forty-eight (48) hours or else you will forfeit all incentives. For the verification, you will be asked to provide the original layered files of your artwork and a scan of your ID.
  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive, and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, these guidelines or Official Rules.

Sony Pictures Entertainment will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Talenthouse Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and the Official Rules.

Guest judges, such as filmmakers, may aid Sony Pictures Entertainment in the selection process, as specified by Sony Pictures Entertainment in its sole discretion.

The judging criteria are based on Creativity (30%), Originality (30%) and Overall Understanding of the theme (40%).
