Showcase your mobile photography skills with Microsoft

Calling all photographers!

Microsoft wants to reward your skills by showcasing you and your finest mobile photography work at Social Media Week 2014.

Social Media Week is a biannual event, attended by over 60,000 people worldwide and THE place for brands and agencies to share the best digital and social insights, trends and information.

Mobile photographers are invited to submit their best work (newly created or already existing) that captures the theme 'shared experience'. You can interpret the theme in whatever way you want – make us laugh, make us cry, make us think. The choice is yours. The only stipulation is that it was created on a mobile device (though, not necessarily a Microsoft one).

Microsoft Microsoft, Social Media Week and guest judge, the revered photographer Stephen Alvarez, will select 1 winner, who will have their work seen and displayed across the eleven cities hosting Social Media Week this September 2014 - from Miami to Johannesburg, São Paulo to Berlin.

They will also receive an all expenses paid trip to either London or Los Angeles for the five-day Social Media Week event. They will meet leading brands and agencies, participate in workshops and sessions and enjoy VIP access to the after parties.

This Creative Invite consists of two rounds.
With a 20MP PureView Camera and four directional microphones with surround-sound, you can capture high-quality photos and immersive video with sound that’s more true-to-life than ever before. Use the Nokia Camera app to take full creative control of your photos, then unleash your creations upon the world through Nokia Storyteller, Instagram and your favorite social networks.

Social Media Week is a biannual global event and media platform dedicated to providing information, ideas and inspiration to help people understand how to achieve more in today’s hyper-connected world. This September, it will take place in eleven cities around the world and be attended by over 35,000 people, with thousands more watching sessions via live stream.


1 winner as selected by Microsoft, Social Media Week and guest judge, Stephen Alvarez, will receive:
  • A VIP trip to either London or Los Angeles for Social Media Week*
  • Extensive networking opportunities through introductions to leading brands, agencies and other creatives
  • Opportunity to participate in workshops and sessions on 'creating content on mobile'
  • VIP access to Social Media Week after parties
  • Extensive exposure through Microsoft and Social Media Week's communications channels
  • A Lumia 930 (known as a Lumia Icon in the U.S.)
  • $1,000
*Participants must be available to travel September 19th - 27th, 2014 and must hold a valid passport.

The photographer as selected by the community will receive*:
  • An automatic spot as the 5th finalist advancing to round two
  • A Lumia 930 (known as a Lumia Icon in the U.S.)
*If the highest voted can’t participate in Round Two due to shipping limitations, they will still win a Lumia 930 but the 5th finalist will be chosen from the top 10% of the highest votes.

Round 1
This Creative Invite consists of two rounds.
  • Submit your best photograph that captures the theme 'shared experience.'
  • Microsoft and its internal visual and creative team will select 4 finalists; The Community Choice is automatically the 5th finalist.
Round 2
  • Each of the 5 finalists will be provided with a Lumia 930 (known as a Lumia Icon in the U.S.) and will be required to submit a new photograph inspired by Social Media Week's theme of 'always on, always connected.'
  • One winner will be selected by Microsoft to attend Social Media Week in either London or Los Angeles.

  • Please do not use any copyright protected material in your submission that is not owned or created by you, unless you have the correct approval.
  • Once you have finished your work please upload the final version(s) to your Talenthouse profile.
  • We are happy to consider more than one of your entries (max. 5 entries), so feel free to create and submit more than one.
  • Remember we are looking for work that really tells a story, so please include a description about your piece next to each submission.
  • Submission deadline is 10AM PST on September 10th 2014. Feel free to submit before then. And please drop us a note to let us know when you’ve uploaded your submissions.
  • This opportunity is open to global residents. Participants must be over 18 years old.
  • Due to shipping limitations, participants from the following markets are only eligible for the Community Choice prize: Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Nepal, Pakistan, Peru, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.
  • Please ensure you understand the selection process.
  • For round one, participants may submit a photograph taken from a mobile device inspired by the theme of 'shared experience'.
  • Round one entries can be pre-existing material or newly created by the participant.
  • Participants must include a 100+ word description about their submission.
  • Participants must ensure all contact information is up to date on their Talenthouse profile including country, email address and full name.
  • The winner must be available to travel between September 19th - September 27th, 2014.

  • Participants that do not have a passport or who are unable to travel to any of the locations may still participate and be considered for the Community Choice.
  • All participants retain ownership of their photographs (Microsoft and Social Media Week can use these entries promotionally across their social channels in connection with the Creative Invite).
  • Microsoft will be responsible for making travel arrangements for the winners (excluding Visa arrangements which must be made by the winners themselves).
  • Participants must respond within 24 hours otherwise another finalist will be selected.
  • If multiple people were involved in the creation of the photograph, only one person can be selected to travel.
  • When sharing your submission on social media, be sure to use the hashtag #SMWcreative.
  • Harmful or offensive or submissions that are not in line with the brief will be removed and asked to resubmit.
  • No purchase necessary.

Microsoft will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

The community
can support their favorite submissions through social voting via Facebook and Twitter. If the highest voted can’t participate in Round Two due to shipping limitations, they will still win a Lumia 930 but the 5th finalist will be chosen from the top 10% of the highest votes.
