Create a monument to freedom!
Berlin has always been a city of ideas, invention and experimentation. Since the Berlin Wall came down in November 1989, the city has regained its title as the capital of freedom, the very essence of tolerance and open-mindedness. Berlin is a city where people are free to live out their dreams and ideas. The #FREIHEITBERLIN campaign has reflected the German capital’s take on freedom since the beginning of 2017. The campaign’s highlight will be an oversized art installation to be erected outside Berlin’s main railway station in May 2018 of this year, depicting the campaign’s name, #FREIHEITBERLIN, in huge letters.
Street artists, designers, illustrators and creatives from across the world are invited to design the letters for this art installation at Berlin’s main railway station. So what is your vision of freedom for Berlin? Encapsulate your vision in a design, illustration or model, and receive the unique opportunity to have your design transformed into a letter forming part of a huge art installation in the very heart of Berlin.
Your design should capture your artistic impression of what freedom means to you. Before you start, please make sure you read the section entitled “Your submission”.
A jury of carefully chosen experts will pick up to six letter designs, which will then be created by selected Berlin street artists and exhibited outside the train station. The blank lettering art installation, measuring an impressive 2.50 x 25 m, will be designed by the prestigious GRAFT Architects studio.The Selected Artists might also be given the potential opportunity to be invited to Berlin (flight/train and accommodation included) to attend the grand opening of the art installation and receive additional €1,000 for each selected design.
On behalf of the state of Berlin, the Partner für Berlin Holding Gesellschaft für Hauptstadt-Marketing mbH (Berlin Partner) has been successfully running the be Berlin campaign since 2008. The campaign brings to life a whole host of ideas, activities and events to explain just what makes Berlin so special. Its aim is to position the city as a whole as an international brand – be it as a thriving mecca for business and industry, a bustling creative metropolis, or simply as the “City of Freedom”.
