Design the next on-pack activation for Volvic water with Danone

Volvic is the volcanic natural mineral water brand from Danone, and it has the ambition to become the 2nd biggest player of the non-alcoholic beverages market by 2020 in France, UK and Germany where it’s currently n°4. Volvic believes everyone has a dormant volcano lying within them, waiting to be awakened to achieve whatever you aspire to in life and as a brand wants to encourage consumers to 'Find Their Volcano'. In 2017, Volvic has done this through a strong on pack activation across its entire portfolio leveraging a ‘specific strength’ on each bottle, and is now looking for the next iteration for the European market in summer 2018!

Volvic gives graphic and visual artists from around the world the opportunity to create the new on-pack activation design for the full master-suite of Volvic products, including water, juices and flavoured water products, bringing to life the brand idea of ’Find Your Volcano’.

Designers are asked to submit one concept that brings to life the brand idea of ‘Find Your Volcano’ on two label designs: Volvic plain water and Volvic Juicy Strawberry. Volvic offers a variety of products within its range from bottled plain water to fruity water based beverages.

Before starting on your submission, please read the ‘Things To Consider’ section below carefully and base your designs on the existing labels provided. Please also submit a PDF showing your previous work and include a link to your Talenthouse profile (friendly tip: keep this updated).

A minimum of one Selected Artist will be chosen to receive the once in a lifetime opportunity to become the official designer of the label for a brand that is sold in stores worldwide. The Selected Artist will receive €5,000 and the potential opportunity to work with the Volvic marketing and creative design team to perfect and roll out the concept on the rest of the portfolio, while receiving an additional €50/hour.
things to consider
When creating your label design, please consider the following:
  • Please have a read of the Brand Background Pack here outlining the background of Volvic and what the 'Find Your Volcano' campaign is about.
  • When creating your designs, please base it on the existing label designs for Volvic plain water and Volvic Juicy Strawberry. *UPDATE*: The Volvic Juicy Strawberry files have now been updated. Please use this link to download.
  • Please carefully read the Label Guideline Pack outlining what can and cannot be changed on the existing labels. In addition to this:
    • The volcano should form part of the creative design but if you wish to alter the volcano itself, you may, as long as the volcano retains its shape. Colours, textures style, etc. can still be altered. Please note that you may only alter the volcano on the back of the bottle label the other side will retain the volcano logo as is.
    • You can choose to use the Volvic proprietary font in your design if you wish: the font and font guidelines can be downloaded here.
    • For the Volvic Juicy Strawberry: The flavour should be easily recognisable by visually showing the fruit or clearly writing ‘Au Jus de Fraise' in text (see Label Guideline Pack for more info).

    • The Volvic personality should be evident in your design: natural, authentic, purposeful yet thought provoking, gritty, strong.
    • The goal is to create a brand identity that is attractive and relevant to millennials.
    • Colour palette is completely open, however, we do recommend that you ensure it corresponds with the flavour of the product as Volvic has many flavours in its portfolio of beverages and needs to maintain flavor differentiation on shelf.
  • Please submit your concepts onto a clean Volvic bottle. You may download the bottle mockups here.
  • Danone and Volvic are looking for concepts that creatively interpret the ‘Find Your Volcano’ theme. ‘Find Your Volcano’ stands for finding that strength that lies dormant within you and unleashing it to achieve that you want in life. We are stronger than we think, we all have a dormant volcano within us ready to awaken. It’s about getting up not giving up, it’s about being authentic and true to yourself not what others may think of you, it’s about seeing the glass half full and not half-empty.
  • Please keep in mind that you will have to be available between Monday 26 June, 2017 - Monday 7 August, 2017, if selected, in order to work with the Volvic team to build out the range of product labels.

Volvic Natural Mineral Water is created by rainwater that infiltrates the ground and filters through 6 layers of porous Volcanic rock. Each layer is the result of a volcano erupting. So by the time the water hits the impermeable granite bed at the bottom, it’s picked up a unique volcanic mineral composition.

A minimum of one Selected Artist, as chosen by the Volvic Global Marketing Team and their Creative Design Agency, will:
  • Receive the potential opportunity to work closely with Danone and their branding/product agencies to build out the concept across other ranges (€50/hour on top of the €5,000).
  • Potentially have their concept produced and sold in the UK, France and Germany.
  • Potentially have their concept rolled out across other touchpoints as part of the 'Find Your Volcano' campaign.
  • Receive €5,000.
creative invite guidelines
  • This opportunity is open globally to those who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. Void where prohibited by law.
  • Limit ten (10) submissions per artist. Please submit two label designs per each submission.
  • This opportunity is a closed Creative Invite. Submissions will not be visible by the public and must not be made public anywhere by you.
  • Artists should retain their original artwork files. Artists should work from the existing labels which can be found here and here and designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max size 10MB.
  • Artists must upload a PDF showcasing their previous work. Please also include a link to your Talenthouse account in the 'Description' of your submission.
  • All submissions must be original artwork (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright material or material purchased from image libraries).
  • Please read the "THINGS TO CONSIDER" section above carefully.
  • Submissions should include the elements as required within the "THINGS TO CONSIDER" section and outlined within the Label Guideline Pack, which can be downloaded here. All rights in and to the logos are reserved by Danone/Volvic.
  • Artists are asked not to share their submissions on social media. Please do not upload your submission to your Talenthouse profile.
  • Artists that are not selected will retain ownership of their work. However, by submitting you hereby grant to Danone/Volvic a worldwide, limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free license for three months to use your submitted work across their various online and social marketing platforms. All artists will be credited accordingly.
  • The Selected Artists will be required to assign full copyright to their work to Danone/Volvic in exchange for the specified incentives. The Selected Artists will have to sign a Copyright Assignment Form.
  • The Selected Artists have to be available between 26 June, 2017 - 7 August, 2017, in order to work with the Volvic team to build out the range of product labels.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted should they be selected.
  • The Selected Artists must respond to Talenthouse within two (2) days of receiving the notification email or else will forfeit all incentives.
  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, guidelines or Official Rules.
  • No purchase necessary to enter.
how Volvic and their Creative Design Agency will choose
The Volvic Global Marketing Team and their Creative Design Agency will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Guidelines, Terms & Conditions and Official Rules.
