Design Limited Edition packaging for Ballantine's

Each year, scotch whisky brand Ballantine’s highlight one of the key tasting notes by releasing a new edition in their Signature Flavour Series. Ballantine's is on the lookout for your bottle label and box packaging designs for the third Limited Edition Signature Flavour - ‘Orchard Fruits’. This new edition accentuates the concentrated and syrupy fruit notes to their iconic 21 Years Old blend. This new Signature Flavour will be available worldwide from 2020/21.

Design modern and elegant packaging inspired by Ballantine's new Orchard Fruits Signature Flavour - visualising its concentrated, syrupy peaches, juicy pear and red apple fruit notes in an abstract way.

Please use these templates (CS6 files) and you may also create mockups of how your design will look on-shelf.

1 Selected Creator will be chosen to potentially have their design used by Ballantine's and will receive £5,000. 3 Finalists will receive £1,000 each.
DO
  • Create a design that brings the flavour notes of the 'Orchard Fruits' whisky to life – concentrated and syrupy with many layers to decode; peaches, juicy pear, red apples at the fore; a voluptuous whisky that develops into a rich, complex composition
  • Use these bottle label and box templates (CS6 files)

  • Be inspired by the flavour notes and represent them in an abstract way (no obvious fruits please) - check out the Design Guide for full flavour details
  • Create an elegant and modern design what looks really prestigious, sophisticated and aspirational

DON'T
  • Create a design that is too literal (i.e. don't include literal depictions of the whisky's flavour notes)
  • Create a design that's only 1 colour - designs should be elegant and eye-catching
  • CSR: Steer clear of showing drunkenness, pregnancy, drunk driving or people in a design

Ballantine’s is the number 1 selling Scotch whisky in Europe and the number 2 globally. An indulgent drink for celebrating a special occasion. The rich, spiced flavour owes itself to the high proportion of Whiskies matured in European Oak casks. A warming blend of whiskies aged 21 years and over with an intense flavour that is truly impressive.

Ballantine's launched the first 21 Years Old Limited Edition Series 'Warming Spices' in November 2018, and the second, 'Golden Zest' will be launching November 2019. The series celebrates the signature flavours of the award-winning Ballantine's 21 Years Old, and showcases how each of these flavours develops and transforms as they age in oak casks.

THE INCENTIVES
1 Selected Creator, as chosen by Ballantine’s, will:
  • Potentially have their Work produced by Ballantine's for their Limited Edition 'Orchard Fruits' bottle label and box, sold in markets during 2020/21
  • Potentially have their design shared across Ballantine’s key marketing channels
  • Receive £5,000
A minimum of 1 and up to 3 Finalist pieces of work will be chosen by Ballantine’s. The Finalists will:
  • Potentially have their work shared across Ballantine’s social channels
  • Receive £1,000 for each piece selected
CREATIVE INVITE GUIDELINES
  • This opportunity is open globally and you need to be at least 25 years of age or the age of majority in your jurisdiction of primary residence at the time of submission. Employees and their immediate family and household members of Ballantine's and Talenthouse are not eligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law.
  • Limit ten (10) submissions per creator or teams.
  • You should use this provided templates (CS6 files) or this provided template (updated August 14) and include at least 2 designs in a submission: a bottle label design and a box design.
  • During the Submission Period, submissions may be featured on Ballantine's social media channels with credit given to you.
  • Submissions will not be visible to the public and cannot be shared on social media until after the announcement of the Selected Creators.
  • How to submit: Click on the ‘Participate’ tab and follow the instructions. Your work must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max. size 10 MB. Please retain your original files in the highest quality possible. Please no photography or video.
    • If you are selected or a finalist, you will have to supply your artwork as a vector file in CMYK supplied as an AI file or similar (high-res, layered PSD files, CMYK and 300dpi minimum, may also be accepted).
    • All submissions must be your own original work (meaning you are not allowed to use third party pre-existing copyright materials and/or stock imagery in your submission) except for the material provided by Ballantine's. All rights in and to the material provided are reserved by Ballantine's.
    • We advise you to carefully read the "Do / Don't" section above.
    • Please add a short description in English explaining the inspiration behind your work. Please use the 'Say something about your submission' section within your submission.
    • If selected, you may be asked to modify your work to fit production requirements through up to 2 rounds of amends.
    • If you are not selected, you will retain ownership in the original portions of your work. However, by submitting you hereby grant Ballantine's (Pernod Ricard) a worldwide, non-exclusive, limited, royalty-free license for up to three (3) months after the announcement of the Selected Creator to use your submitted work across their various online and social media platforms. If your work is used, you will be credited accordingly.
    • If you are a 'Finalist', you will be required to grant Ballantine’s (Pernod Ricard) an exclusive license (global, unlimited, 2 years, royalty-free). The Finalists will have to sign a License Agreement for the incentives set forth above.
    • If you are a ‘Selected Creator’, you will be required to assign all rights, title and interest in and to the selected work to Ballantine's (Pernod Ricard) for the specified incentives. Upon selection, you will be required to sign a Release Form and the Awardee Agreement. Please note that submissions can be used by you for personal, non-commercial and portfolio (including your own social media) use only.
    • Please provide an active email address when registering with Talenthouse to ensure you can be contacted should you be selected.
    • During the selection period, Talenthouse will reach out to those being shortlisted. You must respond to Talenthouse within forty-eight (48) hours or else you will forfeit all incentives. For the verification, you will be asked to provide the original files of your work and a scan of your ID.
    • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, these guidelines, Ballantine’s guidelines or Official Rules (see below).
    • No purchase necessary to enter or be selected.
    HOW BALLANTINE'S WILL CHOOSE
    Ballantine's will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.
