Design artwork for Florence + The Machine

THE BRIEF

Secret 7" is an exciting project combining music and art in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. Seven bands and recording artists (Florence + The Machine, The Cure, DJ Shadow, Ben Howard, CSS, Noah and The Whale and Bombay Bicycle Club) are inviting creatives to design the artwork for a seven inch vinyl sleeve inspired by one of their songs. The project will culminate in 700 unique vinyl sleeves displayed in Idea Generation Gallery in London in the week leading up to Record Store Day 2012. On that day, each of the vinyls at the gallery will be available to purchase with all of the profits going to Teenage Cancer Trust. None of the buyers will know who created the sleeve, or even which song it's for, until they are holding it in their hands - the secret lies within.

In this challenge, Florence + The Machine have selected the track 'Only If For A Night' and are inviting creatives to interpret the song, however they please, via an original piece of seven inch artwork. This is an incredible opportunity for aspiring artists and designers to collaborate with one of the world's most loved bands, to have their artwork seen by millions, be exhibited alongside established artists and in the process, raise valuable funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.
FLORENCE + THE MACHINE
Florence and the Machine's sound has been described as a combination of various genres, including rock and soul. The group's debut album, Lungs, won the MasterCard British Album award at the 2010 BRIT Awards. The group's second album, Ceremonials, was released in October 2011, entering at number 1 in the UK chart and reached the top 10 in the United States.

SECRET 7"
Secret 7" is an annual event that combines music and art for a good cause. We take 7 tracks from 7 of the best-known musicians around and press each one 100 times to 7" vinyl. We then invite creatives from around the world to interpret the tracks in their own style, resulting in a one-of-a-kind sleeve for every 7”. The creatives are made up of famous names through to gems we unearth through artwork submitted to us here on our website.
TEENAGE CANCER TRUST
Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults by providing specialist teenage units in NHS hospitals. 

THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY
45 designs will be selected and printed on a Secret 7" vinyl sleeve which will be sold and exhibited in a gallery in East London in the week leading up to the Record Store Day on April 21st 2012.

On the last day of the exhibition one copy of each vinyl will be sold in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Each winner will also receive: 
• A signed copy of their Secret 7" vinyl sleeve 
• Exposure and recognition for their artwork on a website dedicated to the winning designs
THE COMMUNITY CHOICE
The designs of the 5 highest voted artists will be printed on a Secret 7" vinyl sleeve which will be sold and exhibited in a gallery in East London in the week leading up to the Record Store Day on April 21st 2012. On the last day of the exhibition one copy of each vinyl will be sold in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

Each artist will also receive: 
• A signed copy of their Secret 7" vinyl sleeve 
• Exposure and recognition for their artwork on a website dedicated to the winning designs
HOW THE ARTISTS WILL BE CHOSEN
Florence + The Machine will choose the winner(s) from all qualified submissions with special consideration for the top voted entries. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.
CREATIVE INVITE GUIDELINES
  • The winning designs may be modified to accommodate production requirements.
  • Designs must not include text relating to the host artist nor song title.
  • Designs must be original (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright materials).
  • Participants should retain their original artwork files (in 300dpi) but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max size 5MB.
  • Participants must use the provided template when creating their design.
  • The copyright in and to the winning submissions shall be owned by Florence + The Machine and/or Universal Music Group respectively.
  • Finalists will be allowed to use their submission for portfolio purposes.
  • Florence + The Machine has the right, but not the obligation, to use the winning submission.
