Design for Black Sabbath

Hard rock legends Black Sabbath have dominated the world since they formed in 1968 and have been widely "credited with creating heavy metal", according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The success of their first two albums - Black Sabbath and Paranoid - marked a paradigm shift in the world of rock. Not until Black Sabbath upended the music scene did the term “heavy metal” enter the popular vocabulary to describe the denser, more thunderous offshoot of rock over which they presided.

In celebration of Black Sabbath's long-awaited reunion tour and the European extension, Black Sabbath are inviting aspiring designers from around the world to submit their best graphic artwork as inspired by the catalogue of music from the original Black Sabbath lineup, including the provided "Loner" video*. One artist, as selected by Black Sabbath, will have their artwork produced and featured on a t-shirt to be sold on the European leg of their tour.

The Black Sabbath story began in Birmingham, England, where Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward were looking to escape a life of factory work through music.

Black Sabbath's legendary second album, Paranoid (1970) contained such classic tracks as "Iron Man," "Paranoid" and "War Pigs." Black Sabbath has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide and was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. In 2013 original members Ozzy Osbourne, Geezer Butler and Tony Iommi reunited for the release of their widely acclaimed studio album, 13, their first studio album together since 1978.

The band reclaimed their throne with 13 entering the charts at #1 in 13 countries (including their first #1 in the U.S) and garnering three Grammy nominations (the single “God is Dead?” won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance). The artist as selected by Black Sabbath, will have their design featured on a t-shirt and sold on the European leg of Black Sabbath's reunion tour and on their official online merchandise store.

In addition, the artist will receive:
  • Exposure for their work across Black Sabbath's social media channels
  • $2,500
The artist as selected by the community and the host, Black Sabbath, will receive*:
  • Exposure for their work across Black Sabbath's social media channels
  • $500
* The host will select from the top 3% of the highest voted submissions
Black Sabbath will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

The community
can support their favorite submissions through social voting via Facebook and Twitter. The host will also select an artist from the top 3% of the highest voted submissions.
  • Artists may only submit one file.
  • Artists must submit their artwork in JPG or PNG and no larger than 5MB.
  • Submissions should NOT be focused on past Black Sabbath logos, photographs or imagery and should instead focus on fresh, new material.
  • Designs must be original (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright materials) but can be pre-existing or created especially for this opportunity.
  • Artists must retain their original artwork should they be selected.
  • The selected submission may be modified to accommodate production requirements.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted by Talenthouse should they be selected.
  • Selected Artists must respond to Talenthouse within 7-14 days of receiving the notification email or else will forfeit all incentives.
  • Artists must include a description about their submission and about themselves with a link to their Talenthouse portfolio.
