Creators Selected On
March 11, 2016
Brief
UK fashion retailer Boden invites artists from around the world to challenge the standard catalogue look and create a completely original alternative digital front cover that celebrates the summer season!

Things to consider:
  • This catalogue must include the tagline: "Your summer starts here"
  • Cover dimensions - h: 19.5 cm x w: 14.7cm x d: 0.6cm
  • Submissions can be original illustration, graphic design or mixed-media, judges are not looking for just straight photography submissions
  • Submissions must include the Boden logo and incorporate at least one of the print patterns found in the Creative Pack
  • Artists should use this color palette as a base and can find further inspiration in this mood board
  • Judges are looking for striking imagery that stands out against other fashion retailer catalogues and captivates audiences
One Selected Artist will receive £1,000 and have their work used as the official alternative digital cover for the 2016 Summer Catalogue, which will be shared across Boden's social media channels. Their design may also potentially be used for the official cover for the print catalogue!

Meet the judges
Penny Herriman

Global Brand Director

‘Boden is a wonderfully ambitious and creative business; a British success story that has exported its success and subsequently generates more than half its sales outside the UK’

Penny is an advertising guru, having worked in the advertising industry for twenty years. She joined Boden in September 2013, with the remit of building on the brand’s heritage to deliver sustainability and growth, while at the same time moving its image and offering forward for new audiences. Responsible for all aspects of the brand, Penny quickly took to the task in hand, helping to hone a refreshing new voice and look in Creative Services.

Johnnie Boden

Chairman

‘I’m as ambitious now as I was when I started the business almost 25 years ago’

Johnnie spent much of his teens hunting down vintage tweed overcoats and Converse high-tops in Portobello Road, and cut his teeth as Men’s Fashion Editor of Harpers & Queen’s teenage edition in August 1977. Almost fifteen years later, miserable with his city job, and with the support of his wife Sophie, Johnnie set up Boden; with the aim of creating a brand that gave customers in the UK – and later, beyond – what they wanted: accessible, beautifully made, original products with a witty British edge.

Matt Hilgeman
Product Director

Matt joined Boden from American Eagle Outfitters where he had been Vice President/GMM since 2013 and was responsible for the brand’s launch in the UK at the end of last year. He previously worked for Reitmans (Canada), Group Dynamite, Levi Strauss & Co and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Matthew joined Boden as Product Director in June 2015 and is responsible for all Boden product areas of womenswear, menswear, Mini Boden and the sourcing/supply chain.
