Design a wrap for the all-new Mazda MX-5

the brief
To celebrate the UK launch of the all-new Mazda MX-5, Mazda UK are inviting artists and designers from across the UK to create a show-stopping car wrap design.

Mazda challenge you, using the template provided, to continue to evolve the icon that is the Mazda MX-5, the world’s bestselling two seater roadster. Mazda encourages you to take inspiration from their strong ‘defy convention’ heritage and their innovative design language, KODO, which represents the soul of motion.

Mazda and their panel of judges will select one artist to have their car wrap produced and showcased on one of the first all-new Mazda MX-5’s in the UK at Goodwood Festival of Speed. Goodwood is the largest motoring garden party in the world where Mazda will be the Central Feature Marque, this June.

Goodwood is attended by media and visitors from all over the world and provides a global platform for your design to be seen and enjoyed by thousands. Put your design skills to the test and get creating today!

One artist, as selected by Mazda and their panel of judges, will:
  • Receive £3,000
  • Have their wrap featured on a Mazda MX-5 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed
  • Receive exposure for their work across Mazda's social media channels
Four highly commended finalists will:
  • Receive £400
  • Have their wrap showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

meet the judges
Kevin Rice
Design Director, Mazda Motors Europe

After graduating in Transportation Design from Coventry University, Kevin Rice gained experience with Italdesign in Italy and Opel in Germany. He then joined Mazda for five years in the 1990s before working for BMW. Now back at Mazda as European Design Director, Kevin is charged with further honing the brand's KODO design language from its European headquarters in Oberursel, Germany.
Claire Andrews
Marketing Director, Mazda Motors UK

Since joining Mazda UK in 2002, Claire has successfully launched over ten all-new cars. Claire’s main responsibility is to manage all marketing activities for Mazda in the UK market, including developing Mazda’s presence as central feature marque at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. Claire is also passionate about exploring new innovative ideas, people management and developing talent. Prior to joining Mazda, Claire worked at Lotus Cars where she launched the Lotus Elise Mk II.
erin baker
Managing Director of Cars, Telegraph Media Group

Erin Baker is Managing Director of Cars at Telegraph Media Group. She joined the newspaper in 2000 on the graduate traineeship and was a news reporter and briefly a sub before becoming Deputy Letters Editor. A former Motoring Editor and current weekly columnist, she loves fast cars, motorbikes and racing.
creative invite guidelines
  • This opportunity is only open to residents of the UK who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.
  • Artists should retain their original artwork files (in 300dpi) but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max size 5MB.
  • All entries must be original artwork (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright materials) - photographs will not be accepted.
  • Artists must use the provided template. All 4 views of the Mazda MX-5 must be submitted.
  • You do not have to include the Mazda logo in your work.
  • The selected submissions may be modified in collaboration with the Selected Artists to accommodate production requirements for the final car wrap design.
  • Please only design the exterior of the car and avoid the interior, wheels and windows as these areas will not be wrapped in the final selected design.
  • The copyright for the selected submissions shall be owned by Mazda for global usage.
  • The Selected Artist must be contactable from June 8-19, 2015 to liaise with Mazda about their final car wrap design.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted should they be selected.
  • Selected Artists must respond to Talenthouse within 7 days of receiving the notification email or else will forfeit all incentives.
  • All submissions will feature as part of a global gallery with public sharing on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
  • Inappropriate, offensive, harmful or submissions that do not fit the brief will be removed.
  • No purchase necessary to enter.
how mazda will choose
Mazda and their panel of guest judges will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

As soon as you have submitted your work, feel free to start sharing your submission on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. These shares will count towards the Most Shared award. Please note, it does not impact your chance of being chosen as the overall Selected Artist if you choose not to share.
