Design a tour poster for Stephen Fry

the brief
Stephen Fry is one of the UK’s national treasures, and a trailblazer of innovation and creativity. This September, Penguin Books are thrilled to be publishing Stephen’s third autobiography "More Fool Me" along with Stephen doing a run of five exclusive "Stephen Fry: Live!" shows, the last of which will take place at the iconic Royal Festival Hall in London to be streamed live to cinemas around the UK and internationally.

We’d like to invite artists, designers and illustrators to submit a poster design capturing the essence of Stephen Fry, his book and the live show. This design will then be used on the official posters, displayed at the venues and on Stephen’s own channels, reaching an audience of over 10 million people.

We’re looking to showcase the Stephen that the public know and love, as well as hinting at the Stephen they are yet to uncover in the book. His writing is articulate, inimitable and spellbinding – as we know his live shows will be.

We are looking to appeal to an audience of 24 – 65 year olds, who are culturally aware and actively interested in the arts and literature (as well as Stephen Fry’s own dedicated and varied fan base!). Your artwork should speak to this audience and invite them to be not only voyeurs, but active participants in what will be the most talked about publishing event of the year.

For us, this publication is more than a book – it is a key calendar moment and cultural event.

As a global publishing house we are delighted to have the opportunity to make this an immersive publication for Stephen’s fans all over the world.

We’re doing this with a run of five exclusive “Stephen Fry: Live!” shows, the last of which will be held on October 1st 2014 at Royal Festival Hall, London. This final show will be streamed live to cinemas around the UK and internationally. The filmed show will also later be made available to be viewed online.

Stephen Fry is an award-winning comedian, actor, presenter and director. He rose to fame alongside Hugh Laurie in A Bit of Fry and Laurie (which he co-wrote with Laurie) and Jeeves and Wooster, and was unforgettable as General Melchett in Blackadder. He has presented Stephen Fry: The Secret Life of the Manic Depressive, his groundbreaking documentary on bipolar disorder, to huge critical acclaim. Meet the Judges
David johnson
David Johnson is a theatre producer of new writing, comedy, cabaret and spoken word.

His current credits include live work by STEWART LEE, RUBBERBANDITS, KIM NOBLE, FASCINATING AIDA, STEPHEN FRY, ALEXEI SAYLE and CHRISTEENE.
sally homer
Sally Homer has been promoting theatre, comedy, literature and music for 25 years. After an MA at Birmingham University she worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company and then as Press and Marketing Director at the English Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court Theatre. She was a company director at Borkowski PR where she looked after campaigns for Cirque de Soleil, Prince, Liza Minnelli, LIFT as well as many corporate accounts.

In 2000 she established Hob Publicity - a tiny agency promoting big clients including Stewart Lee, Alexei Sayle, Malcolm Gladwell, Sandi Toksvig, Arthur Smith, Steve Backshall, Jeremy Wade, Malcolm McLaren, Dylan Thomas 100 Festival and Stephen Fry.
Alice Frain
Alice Frain is Head of Business Affairs for Picturehouse Cinemas Limited, having joined the company in 2011. Her responsibilities include the acquisition of alternative content and feature films for Picturehouse Entertainment, the company’s distribution arm. This includes her work on RSC Live from Stratford-upon-Avon and the upcoming Monty Python Live (mostly).

Alice was previously employed at Metrodome Distribution in the business affairs department, which she joined after graduating with First Class Honours in Law and Anthropology from the London School of Economics.
Kimberley Atkins
Kimberley Atkins is a Marketing Manager for Penguin Books. She creates and executes the campaigns for a wide range of commercial fiction and non-fiction titles, often working with a variety of creative agencies and freelance designers.
tim everett
Tim Everett is the Creative Director of Target-Live, a full-service marketing and communications agency specializing in theatre, dance, music and festivals, stand-up comedy, live entertainment and large-scale outdoor events throughout the UK and Europe.

Tim has been designing for the entertainment industry for 30 years and has created imagery for productions in the West End, on tour and at regional theaters across the UK as well as internationally. He has also created many advertising campaigns for the music, film and dance industries as well as festivals and attractions, including the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Party in the Park, the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Ballets companies.
Creative invite guidelines
  • This opportunity is open to global residents.
  • Artists should retain their original artwork files (in 300dpi) but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max. size 5MB.
  • All entries must be original artwork (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright materials).
  • Artists must adhere to all instructions in this downloadable pack.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted should they be selected.
  • Artists must have an up-to-date Talenthouse profile with a short description about themselves.
  • All submissions will feature as part of a global gallery with public voting on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Talenthouse reserves the right to disqualify artists who we believe are cheating the voting system as this is against the spirit of the Creative Invite.
  • Winners must respond to Talenthouse within 3 days of receiving the notification email or else will forfeit all incentives.
  • Inappropriate, offensive, harmful or submissions that do not fit the brief will be removed.

Stephen Fry together with guest judges will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.
