Creators Selected On
August 11, 2021

Hi everyone, we encourage you to submit designs for all of the letters in the word RESPECT. We would love to see more designs for all the letters. - Talenthouse, Last updated as of July 20, 2021.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T. In 1967, the incomparable Aretha Franklin spelled out a powerful message that could no longer be ignored. In 2021, Jennifer Hudson will honor Franklin by embodying her life and echoing her message once again in the upcoming film, RESPECT, in theaters on August 13th. These letters were once used to unite underrepresented voices around the world. Even today, it’s important to remember that respect is universally valued, but individually interpreted. In order to celebrate the power of our individuality, United Artists Releasing is asking what RESPECT means to you.

Choosing a letter from R-E-S-P-E-C-T as your base, create a work of art that demands respect and brings it to life by highlighting what its unique meaning is to you, as an individual. The letter you choose will serve as the backdrop, base or negative space of your art.

We encourage you to be creative in how you choose to feature your chosen letter in your artwork, and we hope to see submissions that respect the inspirational, unique, and PROUD diversity of the artistic community!

The judges are looking for artwork inspired by the key themes mentioned below for each letter in R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Seven (7) pieces of artwork, will be chosen as Selected Creators and will receive $2,000 each. Selected artwork will potentially be featured in the film's marketing campaign, including social accounts, print materials, and merchandise.

  • “S” - “Sisterhood” - Illustration of women uplifting each other in the shape of an S to represent Solidarity
  • “P” - “Passion” - Consider portraying how your passions are aligned with one of the key themes above against the backdrop of the letter “P”
