Welcome to Raccoon City! Sony Pictures is calling on Resident Evil fans to submit digital illustrations for an unprecedented new fan art activation -- to create a 1980’s-era Umbrella Corporation propaganda poster for use in the upcoming film, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City!

This new film is a return to Resident Evil’s roots, and as such, Sony Pictures is looking for unique works that draw their inspiration from the original Resident Evil game series and the upcoming motion picture.

Umbrella Corporation, or Umbrella Corp, plays a major role in the storyline of the latest film. In Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland, with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever changed and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

The winning artworks will have the potential to be used as a background feature within a sequence of the film. The artwork, if placed in the scene, is meant to appear as a promotional advertisement for the Umbrella Corporation, and should eerily feel both duplicitous and safe. The illustrated "propaganda poster" should first and foremost represent Umbrella Corp as a 1980s-era pharmaceutical company. The artwork should depict the company as “an influencer of good” for the people of Raccoon City, but with subtle hints to the possibility of underpinnings of nefarious intentions.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
  • Key themes to include in your submission:

    • Thematic elements from the original Resident Evil game series and the upcoming motion picture. We want to see your passion for the franchise come through in your work!

    • Depicting Umbrella Corporation as the main focus of the propaganda ad poster art in which Umbrella keeps a “clean and professional” public image.

    • Depict Umbrella Corporation as a pharmaceutical company first and foremost.

  • Your works should resonate with global audiences and fans of the Resident Evil film franchise.

  • Designs must be submitted according to the following specifications:

    • Digital illustration, High res JPG/JPEG/PNG – min 300DPI, 3:2 horizontal aspect ratio, highest resolution possible.

  • Do create artwork that stylistically reflects a dystopian form of 1980s typography and graphic trends, while staying true to the “duplicitously safe” brand of Umbrella Corp.

  • Do reference/draw inspiration from the official Umbrella Corp logo, as depicted on the “Welcome To Raccoon City” sign image in this brief.

  • Do make your Umbrella Corp propaganda poster “evergreen” (universally relevant).

    • If your design features people, they should be featured in a nondescript way, and their inclusion should make sense for the work. For example, people would help Umbrella Corp convey a “trusting and safe” public image.

    • Do not depict any actual individual person or likeness to any actual individual person in your work.



  • Do use approved fonts: Times New Roman and/or Source Serif Variable Semibold.
    • Do not use any unapproved fonts in your work.
  • Do not use any reference to the Umbrella logo from the Alice mythology films.
  • Do not reference any cast or characters from the upcoming film -- remember, this is a poster for “Umbrella Corp”, not the film itself!
  • Do not use the old Resident Evil title treatments and logos from the past Resident Evil films.
  • Do not reference the cast or characters from past Resident Evil films.
  • Do not reference artwork from the previous Resident Evil films.
  • Do not directly reference artwork from the Resident Evil video games. (i.e. Do not directly copy an existing artwork shown in one of the games).
  • Do not depict any branded or copyrighted items or materials outside of the imagery found within this brief for Umbrella Corp or the Resident Evil games.

ABOUT RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY

The original Resident Evil film series has become the most successful video game film franchise in history. Filmmaker and fan, Johannes Roberts, is bringing Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City to the terrifying roots of the iconic video game and into theaters this Fall for a whole new generation of fans.

INCENTIVES
  • Up to 10 Winners will be selected, and the Selected Creators will each receive $2,000.

  • Selected Creators from international markets may have their “propaganda poster” featured in the theatrical release of the film for the version released in the country of their permanent residence.

  • Additionally, the Selected Creators’ works may be featured in official digital, social, and print campaigns in support of the film.

CREATIVE BRIEF GUIDELINES
  • NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. AN INTERNET CONNECTION IS REQUIRED.

  • Who is eligible: This opportunity is open globally with restrictions (See Official Rules for sanctioned countries) to those who are at least 18 years of age and the age of majority at the time of entry. Void where prohibited by law.

  • Limit ten (10) submissions per creator.

  • Creators should retain their original artwork files in the highest quality possible but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max. size 10MB.

  • All submissions must be original artwork which is not inspired by or based on third-party artwork (and may not contain third party materials or intellectual property and/or stock materials, and must be free-and-clear of any and all third-party rights). Please, no photography or video.

  • Creators may depict the Umbrella logo and other relevant film thematic elements. All rights in and to the material provided and all derivative works thereof are reserved by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

  • Non-Selected Creator's shall have a license from Sony Pictures Entertainment to utilize the artwork for use in the individual’s portfolio and social posts to display their participation in this contest. Sony Pictures Entertainment will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide all creators with credit for their artwork.


  • Submissions will not be visible to the public until after the announcement.
  • We advise you to carefully read the "Things to Consider" section above.

  • Selected Creators (defined in Official Rules found below) may be asked to modify their artwork to fit production requirements. Failure to modify may be a forfeit of their Selected Creator status and the associated prize.

  • Each Entrant shall accept the Assignment and Release Form and assign to Sony Pictures Entertainment and their licensees all rights, title, and interest in and to the Entrant's submitted artwork. Selected Creators will also be required to sign an Assignment and Release Form and an Awardee Agreement.

  • Entrants may make only personal non-commercial use (e.g. portfolio purposes, social channels) of the submissions without express written consent from Sony Pictures Entertainment. In no event, may an entrant obtain a fee, royalty, advertising revenue, or any other payment for the art created pursuant to this Contest.

  • Please provide an active email address when registering with Talenthouse to ensure you can be contacted should you be selected.

  • During the selection period, Talenthouse will reach out to those being shortlisted. You must respond to Talenthouse within forty-eight (48) hours or else you will forfeit all incentives. For the verification, you will be asked to provide the original files of your artwork and a scan of your ID.

  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive, and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, these guidelines or Official Rules.

HOW SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT WILL CHOOSE

Sony Pictures Entertainment will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Talenthouse Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and the Official Rules.

Guest judges, such as filmmakers, may aid Sony Pictures Entertainment in the selection process, as specified by Sony Pictures Entertainment in its sole discretion.

The judging criteria are based on Creativity (30%), Originality (30%) and Overall Understanding of the theme (40%).
