The 20th Anniversary of Focus Features is coming up on August 16th, and there’s no shortage of film favorites to honor! In celebration of their much-anticipated anniversary, Focus would love to collaborate with YOU on the official campaign countdown:

Celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Focus Features! Create digitally illustrated poster artworks inspired by a selection of their iconic films.

Each month will focus on a different set of films, so stay tuned to see what’s “Coming Soon!”

Ten [10] Selected Creators will be chosen by Focus Features, and each will receive $2,000 USD per work.

The Selected Creators’ artwork may be promoted on official social media channels.

This Brief is broken down into 5 phases.

Each month, there will be a special group of films to focus on.

We encourage you to submit to each month’s designated film group!

Additionally, you may also submit posters for any group that has been published to date throughout the entire brief period.

For example, if it is “Month 3” and you wish to submit a poster for a film from “Months 1 or 2” of this Brief, you are allowed to do so.

Month 1 Films: March 11th to April 7th, 2022

  • Films: Lost In Translation, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Shaun of the Dead

  • 1 Selected Creator will ultimately be chosen from “Month 1 Films” submissions uploaded within this time period

Month 2 Films: April 7th to May 4th, 2022

  • Films: Harriet, BlacKkKlansman, Phantom Thread, The Place Beyond The Pines
  • 1 Selected Creator will ultimately be chosen from “Month 2 Films” submissions uploaded within this time period

Month 3 Films: May 4th to May 31st, 2022

  • Films: Belfast, Darkest Hour, Pride & Prejudice, The Theory of Everything

  • 1 Selected Creator will ultimately be chosen from “Month 3 Films” submissions uploaded within this time period

Month 4 Films: May 31st to June 27th, 2022

  • Films: Brokeback Mountain, Milk

  • 1 Selected Creator will ultimately be chosen from “Month 4 Films” submissions uploaded within this time period

Month 5: June 27th to July 24th, 2022

  • You may submit to ALL titles listed throughout the Brief!

  • 1 Selected Creator will ultimately be chosen from “Month 5” submissions uploaded within this time period

Additionally, 5 Selected Creators will be chosen from submissions uploaded at ANY time during the full brief submission period (March 11th - July 24th).

  • Create digitally illustrated poster artwork inspired by Focus Features’ iconic films in celebration of their 20th Anniversary!

  • Your submission should capture the spirit of Focus Features films and the audiences who love them! Key themes include:

  • Your submission must be digitally illustrated

  • Please submit artwork according to the following specifications:

    • Digitally illustrated, high res, PNG/JPEG files, maximum 10MB, in the following orientation format:

      • Aspect Ratio: 4 x 5 or 9 x 16, vertical

    • You are encouraged to submit timelapse videos of your artistic process as well!

      • Recommended video length: 9-15 seconds (maximum 60 seconds)

      • Video Aspect Ratio: 9 x 16, vertical

  • Your work should appeal to US audiences

  • You may submit up to 10 times

  • Reference imagery should only be used for inspiration, and not used directly in your work

  • Do not depict the likeness of any cast in the films

  • Do not show or imply drunkenness or irresponsible drinking

  • Do not include phrases with any profanity or offensive language

  • Do not reference any other brands or properties in your artwork

  • Do not include references to any real people, dangerous situations, show/imply drunkenness, or anything offensive

  • Do not use third party fonts, images, or other resources in your work

  • Tell us about your creative process and inspiration via the 'Description' field in your submission

Ten [10] Selected Creators will be chosen by Focus Features. Each Selected Creator will:

  • Potentially have their work used across official social, digital and other official marketing campaigns

  • Receive $2,000 per work

  • Who is eligible: This opportunity is open only to legal residents of the United States. You must be at least 18 years of age at the time of submission. Employees and their immediate family and household members of Focus Features and Talenthouse (Talenthouse, Ello and Zooppa) are not eligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law.

  • Limit 10 submissions per creator or teams.

  • Please note, that during the Submission Period, your submission may be featured on Focus Features's social media channels with credit given to you.

  • All submissions must be your own original work (meaning you are not allowed to use third party pre-existing copyright materials and/or stock imagery in your submission) except for the material provided by Focus Features, provided your work is entirely digitally illustrated. All rights in and to the material provided are reserved by Focus Features.

  • How to submit: Click on the ‘Participate’ tab and follow the instructions. Your work must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format, max. size 10 MB. Please retain your original layered artwork files in PSD/AI format in the highest quality possible. Please no photography. Please no hand-drawn or hand-painted work.

  • Please add a short description in English (one sentence plus the title) explaining the inspiration behind your work. Please use the 'Say something about your submission' section within your submission.

  • We advise you to carefully read the 'Things to Consider' section above.

  • Upon submission, you must confirm that you have read and agreed to the License Agreement.

  • If you are not selected, you will retain ownership in the original portions of your work. However, by submitting you, hereby grant Focus Features a worldwide, non-exclusive, digital license from Creative Brief launch, for up to 1 year after the Selected Creator Announcement, to use your submitted work across their various online and social media platforms. If your work is used, you will be credited accordingly.

  • If you are a ‘Selected Creator’, you will be required to assign all rights, title and interest in and to the selected work to Focus Features for the specified incentives. Upon selection, you will be required to sign a Rights Release and an Awardee Agreement. Please note that submissions can be used by you for personal, non-commercial and portfolio use only.

  • Please provide an active email address when registering with Talenthouse to ensure you can be contacted should you be selected.

  • During the Selection Period, Talenthouse will reach out to those being shortlisted. You must respond to Talenthouse within forty-eight (48) hours or else you will forfeit all incentives. For the verification, you will be asked to provide the original files of your work and a scan of your ID.

  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, these guidelines or Official Rules.

  • No purchase necessary to enter or be selected.

Focus Features will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

The judging criteria is based on Creativity (50%), Originality (25%) and Overall Understanding of the Theme (25%).

  • NOTE: Creators may submit to all film groups published “to date” throughout entire submission period: March 11th - July 24th, 2022

  • Creators Selected: Approximately August 16th, 2022 at 12:00 PM
