Coming to theaters April 22, join Alexander Skarsgård on an epic adventure with Focus Features' new movie, The Northman. In support of the release, Focus Features would love to collaborate with YOU on the official campaign:

Create unique digitally illustrated poster designs inspired by The Northman.

The judges are looking for visionary, unique, and inspired designs to reflect the epic scope, challenging trials, and deeply authentic Viking world captured in the film. Think about the tales of an ancient land coming to life!

Four [4] Selected Creators will be chosen by Focus Features and director Robert Eggers, and each will receive $2,000 USD per work.

The Selected Creators’ artwork may be promoted on official social media channels.

  • Create digitally illustrated poster artwork inspired by The Northman.

  • Your submission should pay homage to the foundational themes of The Northman. Key themes include:

    • A classic adventure of epic proportions reminiscent of those found in ancient texts

    • An action-packed quest for revenge

    • An authentic Viking world

    • A world grounded in history with hints of Norse mythology

    • Visually striking in the uncompromising beauty and darkness of old-world visuals and landscapes

  • Your submission must be digitally illustrated.

  • Please submit artwork according to the following specifications:

    • Static digital illustration, digital painting, or alternative poster design

      • Aspect Ratio: 4 x 5 Vertical or 9 x 16 Vertical preferred for social media, 27 x 40 vertical version for standard poster

      • Landscape options welcome! (16:9 Recommended)
      • Resolution: Please retain a high-resolution version of your artwork at minimum 300 DPI. Files must be under 10 MB to submit.

    • You are encouraged to submit timelapse videos of your creative process as well!

      • Recommended video length: 9-15 seconds (maximum 60 seconds)

      • Video Aspect Ratio: 9 x 16 Vertical

  • Please download the Brief Materials Folder for access to the following assets:

  • Your work should appeal to US/UK audiences of the following interest groups:

    • Fans of historical epics

    • History and Viking buffs

    • Fans of fantasy TV & Film

    • Fans of revenge thrillers

    • Fans of director Robert Eggers

  • You may submit up to 10 times

  • Reference imagery should only be used for inspiration, and not used directly in your work

  • Do draw inspiration from the Official Trailer and official social media channels of the film

  • Do not depict the likeness of any cast in the film

  • Do not show or imply drunkenness or irresponsible drinking

  • Do not reference any other IP in your artwork

  • Do not include references to any real people, dangerous situations, other brands, show/imply alcohol or drunkenness, or anything offensive

  • Do not use third party fonts, images, or other resources in your work

  • Tell us about your creative process and inspiration via the 'Description' field in your submission

  • Focus Features would love to see you share your work across social media!

Four [4] Selected Creators will be chosen by Focus Features.

Each Selected Creator will:

  • Potentially have their work used across Focus Features official marketing channels.

  • Receive $2,000 USD for each selected work

  • Who is eligible: This opportunity is open to legal residents of the United States and the United Kingdom. You must be at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in your jurisdiction of primary residence at the time of submission. Employees and their immediate family and household members of Focus Features and Talenthouse (Talenthouse, Ello and Zooppa) are not eligible to participate. Void where prohibited by law.

  • Limit 10 submissions per creator or teams.

  • Please note, that during the Submission Period, your submission may be featured on Focus Features's social media channels with credit given to you.

  • All submissions must be your own original work (meaning you are not allowed to use third party pre-existing copyright materials and/or stock imagery in your submission) except for the material provided by Focus Features, provided your work is entirely digitally illustrated. All rights in and to the material provided are reserved by Focus Features.

  • How to submit: Click on the ‘Participate’ tab and follow the instructions. Your work must be submitted in JPEG or PNG format, max. size 10 MB. Please retain your original layered artwork files in PSD/AI format in the highest quality possible. Please no photography. Please no hand-drawn or hand-painted work.

  • Please add a short description in English (one sentence plus the title) explaining the inspiration behind your work. Please use the 'Say something about your submission' section within your submission.

  • We advise you to carefully read the 'Things to Consider' section above.

  • Upon submission, you must confirm that you have read and agreed to the License Agreement.
  • If you are not selected, you will retain ownership in the original portions of your work. However, by submitting you hereby grant Focus Features a worldwide, non-exclusive, digital license from Creative Brief launch, for up to 1 year after the Selected Creator Announcement, to use your submitted work across their various online and social media platforms. If your work is used, you will be credited accordingly.

  • If you are a ‘Selected Creator’, you will be required to assign all rights, title and interest in and to the selected work to Focus Features for the specified incentives. Upon selection, you will be required to sign a Rights Release and an Awardee Agreement. Please note that submissions can be used by you for personal, non-commercial and portfolio use only.

  • Please provide an active email address when registering with Talenthouse to ensure you can be contacted should you be selected.

  • During the Selection Period, Talenthouse will reach out to those being shortlisted. You must respond to Talenthouse within forty-eight (48) hours or else you will forfeit all incentives. For the verification, you will be asked to provide the original files of your work and a scan of your ID.

  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief, these guidelines or Official Rules.

  • No purchase necessary to enter or be selected.

Director Robert Eggers and Focus Features will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.

The judging criteria is based on Creativity (30%), Originality (30%) and Overall Understanding of the theme (40%).
