The Babyface Killer is back!

Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of Happy Death Day 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. The film comes to theaters on February 13, 2019. This time, our hero Tree Gelbman (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead. We are excited to announce that Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U writer and director, Christopher Landon will guest judge the art!

Artists, designers and illustrators from around the world are invited to create one-of-a-kind Valentine’s Day Card-inspired artwork for Happy Death Day 2U. Check out the “Things to Consider” section below for additional notes and don’t be afraid to lean into the comedic aspects of the series!

Whether it's an illustration, a digital painting, etc., the judges are looking for captivating and imaginative static artwork to help drive promotion and excitement socially across the film's marketing and digital channels. These pieces may also be used socially, or at Valentine’s Day events. Please note that the provided material is not to be used directly in submissions.

Artwork will potentially be featured across the film's marketing campaign, including social accounts, print materials and merchandise. Five pieces of art will be selected by Christopher Landon and Universal Pictures. The Selected Artists will receive $2,000 for each piece selected. An additional ten pieces will be selected as Finalists and receive $400 each. Selected Artists and Finalists may have their work used at official Happy Death Day 2U events, activations and pop-up galleries.
things to consider
Before starting on your artwork, please consider the following:
  • Take inspiration from the latest imagery, trailers, and the film’s themes. Please note, the imagery is for inspiration only and should not be used in submissions directly.
  • Submissions should be able to be used both as a standalone graphic, or specifically as a Valentine’s Day card.
  • Check out this Pinterest board for Valentine’s Day Card inspiration.
  • In keeping with the unique attitude of the film, the cards should be clever, fun and with a twinge of horror.
  • Please avoid some of the film’s darker themes - if your work is deemed inappropriate, it may be removed.

Feel free to include a Valentine's Day Card phrase/message on your submission. Some thought starters to include are below:
  • Have a killer Valentine's Day!
  • I would love to be stuck in a time loop with you.
  • Hope this Valentine's Day is one you'll remember, over and over again.
  • I don't want to re-live the same day without you.
  • To my baby. You are killer!
