We chose Breitner Arango’s piece as our Selected Artist, because his work balances simplicity with Christmas magic, and uses emotive festive elements while building on the Hall’s identity and image. The design is also adaptable to a variety of digital and physical formats, and manages to convey the emotion we were looking for in a modern and refreshing style."

Christmas is, and always has been, a magical time of year at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. For Christmas 2018, the entire building, including the auditorium, other performance spaces around the building and the surrounding areas outside will be transformed into an enchanting Christmas experience of music, dance, film, comedy, and much more.

The Royal Albert Hall invites visual artists from all over the world to design the official "Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall" artwork to be used on posters, leaflets, websites, social media and print adverts.

The judges are looking for captivating artwork that celebrates the Christmas spirit, the magical music and entertainment of the season, the elements and characteristics of the Royal Albert Hall, and the sense of coming together to celebrate the time of year and this great musical venue. Emphasis will be placed on eye-catching and warm visuals that are adaptable and can be brought to life across animated and digital formats. Artists are encouraged to check out this Pinterest board for inspiration. Before starting on their submission, artists should read the "Submission Guidelines" section.

The Selected Artist may have their artwork used for the Christmas 2018 campaign across the Royal Albert Hall’s channels and will receive £2,000. Two runners up will receive £500 each.
Before starting on your submission, please consider the following:
  • The work should be created in an A5 portrait format, and be suitable for resizing up to 4-sheet poster size, with consideration for landscape application across print and digital formats
  • The work should look to celebrate Christmas, the Royal Albert Hall and the sense of coming together to celebrate at this great musical venue
  • Submissions should include the following elements:
    • Representation of the Royal Albert Hall building
    • Specific show elements such as music, comedy, dance, family
    • The coming together of people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
    • Show a warm, cosy and caring environment
    • Christmas elements such as a Christmas tree, snow, Father Christmas
    • Feel very London, maybe through incorporating the surrounding area and/or cityscape
    • Portray the magic, sparkle, excitement and enchantment of this festive time of year
    • The headline "Christmas at the Royal Albert Hall" in a layer. No other copy should be included

  • Artists may use the festive colours of rich reds and golds, and may take inspiration from the Royal Albert Hall logo and colour palette, however the inclusion of these specific colours is not mandatory. All rights in and to the logo are reserved by the Royal Albert Hall.
  • Artists should not include photography.
  • Artists should not include images of real people, and must comply with copyright or service marks of a third party or any location.
  • Artists must not include or allude to alcohol drinking scenarios or dangerous situations.
  • The Selected Artist will be asked to provide the work in vector PDF, Adobe Illustrator or EPS format, max. size 15MB - please submit creative as a JPG or PNG.
  • The Royal Albert Hall may apply a branded footer treatment to creative for leaflets, adverts and posters for booking information. Please consider the addition of this element when developing creative, but do not include it in submissions. View the footer treatment here.
  • Please carefully consider the variety of formats this print will be used across: print, digital, fabric, potentially merchandise, etc.
  • Each submission should be accompanied by a small written caption in English explaining the inspiration and design. This information should be included in the 'description' field of your submission.

One Selected Artist, as chosen by Royal Albert Hall, will:
  • Have their artwork potentially showcased for the 2018 Christmas at Royal Albert Hall campaign
  • Potential to receive exposure across the Royal Albert Hall's digital, social media channels and print collateral produced for the campaign
  • Receive £2,000
Two Highly Commended Artists, as chosen by Royal Albert Hall, will:
  • Receive £500 each
Creative Invite Guidelines
  • This opportunity is open globally to those who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry. Void where prohibited by law.
  • Multiple submissions (up to 10) and artist teams are allowed.
  • Artists should retain their original artwork files in the highest quality possible but designs must be submitted in JPEG or PNG, max size 10MB.
  • All submissions must be original artwork (meaning not using third party pre-existing copyright and/or stock materials). Please no photography.
  • Please read the "SUBMISSION GUIDELINES" section carefully.
  • Artists may take inspiration from the logo and use the colour palette. All rights in and to the logo are reserved by Royal Albert Hall.
  • Artists who are not selected will retain ownership of their work, however Royal Albert Hall will have the right to promote submissions on their channels in connection with this Creative Invite up to three (3) months after artist announcement. All artists will be credited accordingly.

  • The Selected Artist and Highly Commended Artists will have to sign the following Artist Release Form, which assigns all right, title and interest in and to their selected work to Royal Albert Hall for global usage. Selected work can still be used for artist's own portfolio purposes but cannot be used for any other purpose.
  • The Selected Artist and Highly Commended Artists may be asked to modify their design to fit production requirements.
  • Artists must join Talenthouse using an active email address in order to ensure they can be contacted should they be selected.
  • Selected Artists must respond to Talenthouse within two (2) days of receiving the notification email or else will forfeit all incentives.
  • Talenthouse reserves the right to remove inappropriate, offensive and harmful submissions as well as submissions that do not fit the brief and follow the guidelines or Official Rules.
  • No purchase necessary to enter.
How the Royal Albert Hall will choose
The Royal Albert Hall will select from all qualified submissions. A qualified submission is one which meets all the Terms & Conditions, Guidelines and Official Rules.
