A Note from Le Méridien:

"We are absolutely thrilled by the amount of high quality submissions we received from all over the world. The excitement, commitment and creativity of the Talenthouse community was astonishing and seeing 1081 entries with work by photographers from 75 countries was incredibly inspiring.

It was very hard to select only 5 artists out of all the beautiful work we received and we would like to encourage everyone to continue capturing the world through their lenses and never lose their passion. Your talent is remarkable!

Now we are very excited to work with Gita, Chutima, Natta, Onn and Lucie on this project to create a video art reel that will light up the hubs in over 100 Le Méridien hotels across continents with images inspired by the glamour of travel of the 50’s and 60’s, midcentury cinema and a touch of the traditional French colour rouge.

Congratulations to all five!"

Le Méridien, part of Marriott International, is a visually stunning hotel group with hotels in 100+ locations around the world. Le Méridien is for the curious and creative traveller, who loves to explore the world in style, enjoys indulging in culture and cuisine and who likes to savour the journey of discovery, one destination after the other. And this love for travel and culture comes with a love of photography and art. This is where you come in.

After truly successful collaborations with renowned artists such as Marcus Kreiss and Gray Malin, Le Méridien is now calling on travel and lifestyle photographers around the world to submit their photography for the opportunity to become Le Méridien's next official photographer, providing photography that will be part of their 'Follow Me Video Art Project', a 24-hour visual journey showcased in all Le Méridien hotels globally.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work directly with the Le Méridien Creative and Brand team to put your mark on all of the Le Méridien hotels. Up to 5 Selected Artists will be commissioned to capture a portfolio of 200 photos each following one of the three themes outlined within this Creative Invite for a 5 week period during summer 2017. The Selected Artist's work will be turned into short ‘art films’ that will be on rotation within all Le Méridien hotels, and the artist will also have their name credited clearly within the hotels and on digital and social, gaining them exposure in front of 7 million visitors every year!

The Selected Artists will receive a grand package of $5,000 each and 200,000 Starpoints to use at any Le Méridien hotel around the world (approximate value 8 days stay at a Le Méridien hotel/cash value of approximately $7,000).
Things To Consider
Stage 1
This opportunity consists of two stages:
  • Stage 1: An open call for photographers to submit destination and lifestyle-inspired photography (existing or created for this opportunity specifically). Images can be based on a destination that the photographer has traveled or the city that they live in.
  • Stage 2: Based on the work submitted in Stage 1, up to 5 Selected Artists will be asked to build out their work following the brief set out within this Creative Invite during the period August 14 - September 18, 2017.
Stage 1:
When creating your submission, please consider the following:
  • You should submit a minimum of 5 and up to 10 images within your submission. The work submitted may be used to count towards the final 200 photos that have to be delivered if selected.
  • Photography teams are allowed.
  • Photographers may submit existing work from their portfolio, but work should be inspired by the below three (3) categories - all passions and insights embraced by Le Méridien. Please see this Background Information pack for more info.
    • The Golden Age of Travel
    • Rouge
    • 50's and 60's Cinema
  • Photographers can read more about each category in the sections below and in the Background Information pack. Photographers should keep in mind that the categories do not need to be taken literally but rather as an inspiration. Photographers can also find out more information about Le Méridien's 'Follow Me' campaign in the banner below.
  • If your photography includes a private property you may need to get a Location Release Form (this applies to Stage 1 and Stage 2).
  • Please ensure you have a Model Release Form from any person shown in your photos, otherwise your photo won’t qualify. This will need to be provided if your photo is selected (this applies to Stage 1 and Stage 2).
Stage 2
Photographers should keep in mind the following brief for Stage 2 (Commission) in case they are selected:
  • If selected, artists must be available to finalise a full portfolio of 200 photos following the brief set out within this Creative Invite between August 14, 2017 - September 18, 2017. This will include a re-brief session with Le Méridien as well as 5 weeks to finalise 200 photos including editing. Selected Artists will be asked to sign an Artist License Agreement committing them to finalise the project within the timeframe and on-brief.
  • Le Méridien is looking for a blend of midcentury-infused and contemporary photography.
  • Destinations, sights, sounds and aromas captured through the lenses of style, chicness and a touch of cheekiness and sense of humour are the essence of what the photography should embody.
  • Filters and other editing techniques may be applied to the photography.
  • Colour photography is encouraged, but black and white images will be allowed.
  • Screens, where artwork will appear, will mostly be displayed in a horizontal format. While this should not dictate the direction, Selected Artists should keep that in mind.
  • Although the brand is looking to inspire guests with experiences informed by its European roots, images do not have to be shot in this continent. The photos should reflect the flair each category is looking to evoke in the destination from which the artist is from.
  • Images do not have to be 50's and 60's styled. This time period should instead serve as inspiration to look at today's travel through a lens that showcases destinations, their lifestyle and the journey to and from these in a way that reflects the midcentury essence, style, savoir vivre and flair.
  • Selected Artists are encouraged to stay away from cliche travel shots or "brochure style" imagery.
category #1: The golden age of travel
Celebration of 60's and 70's inspired by travel, when the journey was as special and glamorous as the destination itself.

Whether traveling by plane, train, yacht, Vespa or bicycle, travel imbued with a chic and enchanted connotation when one would enjoy the destination's sights, sounds and aromas in style...and at one's own pace.

In this category, Le Méridien is looking for contemporary images that capture the moment, as well as the essence of travel inspired by this era. Please check out this mood board for inspiration.
category #2: Rouge
Informed by a sophisticated, Midcentury Modern aesthetic, Rouge is a principal tone in Le Méridien's colour palette. Rouge provides a contemporary pop inspired by the traditional French Red.

In this category, Le Méridien is seeking inspiring moments of rouge whether it be a hidden door, a bicycle zipping through a square or a red thread in a beautiful scarf. Artwork should embody the je ne sais quoi (an intangible quality that makes something distinctive or attractive) of colour that celebrates chicness, attraction, style and femininity throughout the centuries. Please check out this mood board for inspiration.
category #3: 50's and 60's cinema
Le Méridien's visual language and aesthetic is inspired by cinemascope ratios and photography. Inspired by timeless European classics, Saul Bass and era of widescreen formats and Midcentury colour this is where the brand seeks inspiration.

In this category, Le Méridien is seeking imagery inspired through the lens of European and classic films that evoke nostalgia through this cinematic period. Please check out this mood board for inspiration.
