Update From The Moxy Judges
Quote From The Moxy Judges:

“Nicholas’ work appealed to me because it’s graphically strong and alludes to the feverish pulse of the city; alive and always in motion at a caffeinated pace.”
~ Glenn Pushelberg

You seem like the talented type. Let Moxy give you a place to show it. Created for a new generation of travelers with insightful design and infectious energy, Moxy is a hotel brand where you can get away with play. Rules were made for breaking anyway, right? This summer Moxy Times Square will step onto the New York stage and wants to give one amazing artist the opportunity to become its very own Artist in Residence!

HEY GORGEOUS, WE HEARD YOU’VE GOT TALENT. Moxy Times Square invites street artists, illustrators and graphic designers from around the world to design a large wall panel inspired by New York City that captures the spirit of Getting Away With It.

Moxy and its panel of judges are looking for artwork that embodies the spirit of getting away with it, captures the true cultural vibe of New York and entertains our fun hunting travelers. The more fun, spontaneous and playful, the better. Before submitting, please read the 'Things to Consider' section below and check out this mood board.

To mark the opening, Moxy Times Square is offering one global visual artist the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have their work live on as part of the hotel’s art collection. The selected art piece will be printed onto two large mesh panels (116 inches x 120 feet each; 232 inches by 120 feet total design space) that will be hung from the ceiling along the atrium wall of the hotel that spans 14 stories and can be seen from several floors and vantage points inside the hotel.

The Selected Artist and their work will also be featured at the hotel’s grand opening party on September 7, 2017, attended by international media, bloggers, influencers, and VIP's from New York’s pulsating cultural scene. The Selected Artist will be flown to New York to attend the grand opening (travel and accommodation provided) and will receive $8,000. Three Finalists will receive $500 each and potential exposure across the @MoxyHotels and @MoxyTimesSquare Instagram channels.
things to consider
Before submitting your work, please consider the following:
  • Dimensions of the space: The wall extends from floor 3 up to floor 17. The proposed work should be 232 inches (approx. 5.9m) wide x 120 feet (approx. 36.5m) long, but please consider that this will be printed onto two mesh panels hanging next to each other. The panels will be printed with full bleed, edge to edge, so keep this in mind when creating your design. You may use this Visual Reference Guide for guidance.
  • The space is an open air atrium that is able to be seen from multiple vantage points. Photos of the wall space can be viewed here.
  • The interior walls of the hotel will be a neutral, beige color, and the décor in the hallways will have a muted palette. Moxy and their panel of judges are looking for mural designs that pop with bold colors or patterns.
  • Check out this mood board for inspiration.
  • When creating your work, you are encouraged to keep the Moxy brand's bold, playful spirit in mind along with New York's iconic, cultural style.
  • The Selected Artist must be available to travel to New York for 3 - 5 continuous days between September 3 - September 8, 2017. The Grand Opening event will be on September 7, 2017.
  • You must include your Instagram @handle within your description or Talenthouse profile to ensure you are credited whenever your submission is showcased on the @MoxyHotels and @MoxyTimesSquare Instagram channels. Also if you are selected, you will be asked to share 10 posts on Instagram using #MoxyBlankCanvas and #MoxyTimesSquare so don't forget to get your profile up to date.
  • UPDATE: Please do not submit airbrush style nor photo realistic pieces.
