A NOTE FROM THE HOST

We wanted to see how the Talenthouse global creative community would interpret the brief “Advertising is not a dirty word”. We were thrilled with the quality of over 700+ on-brief entries in just 3 weeks. Incredible diversity, originality and freshness of approach - we were spoilt for choice”.

Gordon Young, Editor in Chief, The Drum

ADV@&TIS*!G should not be a dirty word. Some may believe it is, but The Drum says enough is enough! This is an extraordinary opportunity for creators across the world to create a magazine cover that will be seen by some of the best execs in the advertising industry.

As one of the biggest publications in the advertising industry, The Drum believes the advertising business should be a source of pride, not embarrassment. In celebration of the best in advertising, The Drum Advertising Awards is being held in November 2018 to remind the world about some of the most creative and innovative work in the industry. The awards are due to be promoted in The Drum’s December 2018 magazine, which means advertising inspired magazine cover designs are wanted!

Artists, graphic designers, photographers and illustrators from across the globe are invited by The Drum to submit magazine cover designs for its December 2018 Edition, to amplify and promote The Drum Advertising Awards - all inspired by ‘Advertising isn’t a dirty word’.

Submissions may be any static format, but should visualise the phrase “Advertising isn’t a dirty word”. Please read the “Things to Consider” section carefully.

The Drum will choose one Selected Artist to have their work produced into a magazine cover for the December 2018 Issue, showcased across The Drum's key digital and social channels, and potentially showcased at the Awards show. The Selected Artist will also receive £1,500. Three Finalists will also potentially have their work showcased across The Drum digital channels, and will receive £750 each.

THINGS TO CONSIDER
  • Your submission should be a magazine cover, taking the form of illustration, graphic design, photography, etc. - all still formats are welcome as long as you follow the theme.
  • Submissions should visualise the theme ‘advertising isn’t a dirty word’. Get creative, and show the best in the industry what creativity really means.
  • Think outside the box, and submit designs that include striking, engaging imagery to help challenge the standard way in which we look at advertising.
  • Remember that the aim is to promote The Drum's Advertising Awards in November, for the December 2018 Edition of the magazine.
  • Submissions should fit the dimensions of 240x330mm, with a 3mm bleed. Please see an example of The Drum's latest magazine cover here.

  • Be vibrant, eye-catching and present a celebratory feel towards advertising.
  • The Drum may request up to 2 rounds of edits on the Selected Work, or may edit/amend the work internally.
  • Please do not submit designs that could be interpreted as irresponsible or offensive to certain communities.
  • All content (e.g. recognisable people/faces/music) included in the final design must be original and/or cleared to use. You are solely responsible for obtaining, prior to submitting, all necessary usage rights, model release forms and permissions for the contents of your submission. Proof will be required if selected.
ABOUT "THE DRUM"

It’s a statement that expresses their belief in marketing’s transformative powers, and calls on the industry to consider the effect its work has on the world at large. Most importantly, it commits them to creating content that inspires as much as it informs.

THE DRUM ADVERTISING AWARDS

ADV@&TIS*!G should not be a dirty word. But it is. For some reason the creative industries are increasingly reluctant to use the ‘A’ word. The Drum believes enough is enough. Rather than a source of embarrassment saying you’re in the advertising business should be a source of pride. The Drum are hosting The Drum Advertising Awards to celebrate this. Now we need your help to get that message across. To remind the world why in actual fact the advertising business model is as relevant as ever.
