Talenthouse is partnering with Flix on an Epic MegaGrant project in Unreal Engine. We have challenges coming your way every 2-3 months. Talenthouse is hosting these challenges, to support, educate and inspire Young Creatives. Unreal Engine is a game engine developed by Epic Games. It’s a "state-of-the-art engine and editor with photorealistic rendering, dynamic physics and effects, lifelike animation, robust data translation and much more".

Challenge 1: Create a sci-fi base using the assets provided. Your base should have at least two floors, making use of stairs and doors. Be creative, and build a base that you’ll be proud of!

Build your very own virtual sci-fi outpost, using cutting-edge game development tech – Unreal Engine! You’ll be guided through the process, from setting up Unreal Engine to placing assets on a level to construct your outpost.

Each brief will have 4x Selected Creators who will be chosen and receive $500 each.

Check out more information about the Epic MegaGrant project in Unreal Engine here

Important
The brief is open globally to all ages from 16+, however, we want to celebrate and inspire the next generation of young creatives ages 16-24 years of age to participate.

Challenge 1 is suitable for users with no Unreal Engine skills, therefore don't hold back anyone can do it. Learning resource videos are below!
Do's
  • Create a sci-fi base using the assets provided below. Your base should have at least two floors, making use of stairs and doors. Be creative, and build a base that you’ll be proud of!
  • Think like a game developer would – test your work regularly check how it looks from a gamer’s perspective and look out for any issues early!
  • Try to get others to play with your work too - collaboration will help you spot things you may have missed or generate interesting new ideas
  • Get creative and don’t be afraid to go off-grid sometimes! Try flipping objects upside down or rotating them – can you make them look like something else? Games also often have secrets, hidden areas or “easter eggs” - make your outpost unique and fun to explore
  • Tell a story – try to think about what your outpost is, and who lives/lived there. This will help your outpost feel more believable
  • Please find the assets for you to use to create your sci-fi base
  • Example: In your game, you are sent to explore a long-deserted outpost on a distant alien planet, investigating the area for clues about what happened to the colonists who have mysteriously disappeared. In this example, you would need to build the colonists somewhere to eat, sleep and work
  • Moodboard - Take inspiration from this visual guide, remember to not use the reference imagery directly
  • We would love you to share your work across social media! Please tag @UnrealEngine, and @FlixInteractive and use #FlixInteractive so they can see and potentially share your work

Don'ts
  • Don’t rush to make something too big and complex – you might find it harder to make changes later! Make sure you’re happy with the rough shape of your basic building blocks before you start adding lots of details
  • Don’t reuse the provided assets from this brief for personal projects, commercial use or distribute any of the assets externally. The assets are owned by Flix
  • Reference imagery should only be used for inspiration, and not used directly in your work, think outside the box and be creative
  • The Submission must not contain material that is inappropriate, indecent, obscene, hateful, tortious, defamatory, slanderous or libellous;
