The first thing someone notices about you is your hair - it's a crown you will never take off.

You're given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, by a leading haircare company, to innovate a brand new premium haircare product for female customers in Japan, one that would help others put their best hair forward; what would you create?

The haircare category is becoming more fragmented every year because consumers of today are no longer brand loyal. Their strong appetite for new brands is fuelled by the joy of discovering new brands to find the best haircare available. They are seeking brands that would provide them with a unique experience which would, in turn, spark an emotional connection. You now have the chance to innovate and come up with a completely new concept for a haircare product - this can be anything from a shampoo, a conditioner to a leave-in product or a hair mask. Use your imagination!

Using the two templates provided, your submission should be in English or Japanese and include the following:
• Your suggested product name
• Your idea described in one line (short and punchy)
• A brief description about your product idea (max 300 words)
• Your suggested ingredients, scent and sensorial experience
• A rough product logo
• A rough packaging shape and design
• A visual expression of your idea in the form of a moodboard

The host will select five submissions. The Selected Artists will potentially have their ideas produced and will be rewarded with $2,000 for each idea selected.
THINGS TO CONSIDER
  • Each submission should include the two templates provided for this brief. All submissions to be in English or Japanese.
  • Your rough mock up of pack shape, form and visual expression of your product idea can be submitted as illustration, graphic design or sketch.
  • In Japan, most shampoo and conditioners are pumps. Therefore, do ensure that the haircare pack form in your submission includes a pump.
  • The packaging design for your idea should be premium, unique and stand out on the shelf. Push your creative boundaries and think outside the box. It does not need to be in a bottle form. View examples of unique haircare packaging here.
  • You are highly encouraged to do your research about the Japanese beauty and haircare industry. Your fresh, new haircare product ideas and concepts should be on trend, or ahead of the trend, for the Japanese market. Your ideas must be different to the existing offerings in the Japanese market. Avoid the following themes: Hawaiian, honey, rain/humid season products, mason jar related haircare concepts as they are already available in market.
  • Other small, niche, local haircare brands entering the market have considered the following concept territories: latest fashion trends, lifestyle, new regime, skincare, destination / vacation, effective ingredients, weather related, niche benefits etc. You should consider having a unique proposition for your suggested ideas.
  • Do note that ‘haircare’, in this instance, includes both Shampoo and Conditioner.
  • Include your chosen female demographic in the Japanese market. Targeting should be based on age, lifestyle, hair type, interest etc.
THE CAREER OPPORTUNITY
The host will select five product ideas. The Selected Artists will:
  • Potentially have their ideas produced and sold across Japan
  • Receive $2,000 for each idea selected
