Create a design for the hull of cruise ship MSC Euribia
A message from MSC CRUISES:
MSC Cruises is calling out to all sea-loving artists to design an artwork for the hull of MSC Euribia, cruising the blue in a green way.
The blue leads us to endless discovery, far and wide, but it is the green leading us towards a better, sustainable future for all. At MSC Cruises, we’re committed to doing our part in preserving the future of our oceans. That is why we didn’t hold back when imagining a ship that marks yet another milestone in our commitment towards environmental sustainability: MSC Euribia. Named after the ancient Greek Goddess who had mastery over the seas, she is one of the world’s most environmentally advanced contemporary cruise ships, being powered by LNG.
For the first time ever, we are making an open call to inspired artists and designers across the globe. For what, you ask? We want one of YOU to design a work of art for the hull of MSC Euribia. In your design proposal, you’re asked to take inspiration from the marine ecosystem this ship helps to preserve.
The selected artist will receive a significant monetary prize but, more importantly, will have the chance to have his/her art be world-renowned as it cruises the seas on MSC Euribia in the following decades. The ship’s hull will become a unique, colossal canvas that will take the designer’s art across the globe, making it illustrious and memorable around the world.
For this brief MSC Cruises invites inspired and professional artists and designers to create masterpiece artworks, which could cruise around the globe, sailing towards a greener future.
The chosen artwork would be showcased on the hull of one of the world’s most environmentally advanced cruise ships.
In your design proposal we would like you to take inspiration from the marine ecosystem that MSC Euribia helps to preserve.
The Selected Creator will receive €15,500 in total and also get to cruise on board of the MSC Euribia!
5 additional pieces of work will be chosen as Finalists, and each creator will receive €1,500.
SHIP LENGTH: 331 mt, HULL HEIGHT: 15 mt.
AREA OF APPLICATION: potentially any part of the ship that is constructed in white steel, excluding technical systems and devices. Painting to be above the water line and on hull (white painted parts) only.
AREA NOT PAINTABLE: Under water line, fender areas, porthole, glass element, technical devices such as cameras, sensors, light, antennas, domes, handrails, balcony cabins doors, life rafts, lifeboat, life tender, safety and hull markings. Avoid all technical spaces and windows (i.e. anchor, grates, etc) that shall have specific treatment/finishing due to operation and safety rules. Please also consider there might be safety restrictions on painting (lifeboat…).
Ship bow is a double curved surface so decoration shall be designed considering this scenario. A projection of the artwork into curved surfaces and adaptation to the graphic contents will be applied by engineers following technical requirements, rules and maritime restrictions.
