I originally trained as an artist, but my career took a different trajectory and I've continued to earn my living as a professional makeup artist for TV, film, stage and print...a career that I love which has taken me many places and allowed me to work with some incredibly interesting and creative people...and still does. However, over the past three years, I've felt compelled to start painting again. My early work was exclusively done in watercolor, however I'm now working with acrylics. I'm enjoying painting more than ever, since I'm not bound by the constraints of approval or the need to sell... placid and polite images don't usually make their way into the mix (though there's the odd exception here!) For the most part, I like to paint bold, and somewhat dramatic/cinematic style canvases where the viewer is either ignored or confronted by the subject in my work. I have a fairly dark sense of humor, and that seems to make its' way into the work as well. Finding the balance of abstraction and realism in both style and concept, is probably the biggest challenge and reward.
