Animate for Red Bull

  • The global energy drinks brand, Red Bull, are inviting budding animators in the UK to showcase their imagination, adventure and talent as part of Red Bull's nationwide campaign 'Red Bull Canimation'. Artists are invited to submit an animated short film* inspired by Red Bull's famous blue and silver can** for the chance to attend an internship with top animation companies: Aardman Animations, The Mill & 12foot6.

    Three winners will be selected by guest judges James Farrington of The Mill; Merlin Crossingham OF Aardman Animations; Dave Anderson of 12foot6; Jayne Pilling of British Animation Awards; Tom Tagholm of 4Creative. In addition to the internships, the three winners will have their submissions featured on Channel 4 and in cinemas nationwide.

    * Film must be no longer than 2 minutes
    ** The Red Bull blue and silver can must be the feature focus of the animation film

    The Mill
    Lead 3D animator for The Mill Film and TV, James has worked on a number of TV productions including Doctor Who, Merlin and Primeval and was part of the Oscar and BAFTA winning VFX team on The Golden Compass.

    Not only Creative Director for Wallace and Gromit at Aardman Animations, Merlin has also received an Emmy nomination for his work on the Creature Comforts USA series for CBS

    Dave wrote the seminal Future Shocks series for 2000AD magazine and also created the infamous Bastard Bunny cartoon character.

    Jayne Pilling
    British Animation Awards
    Jayne is director of the British Animation Awards. An animation specialist, she has also published several books on animation and lectures on the subject worldwide.

    Tom Tagholm
    4Creative
    Tom oversees all of Channel 4's 4Creative department producing content for on air, off air and online. He has won a number of awards in TV and is a celebrated short film maker.

    Three winners will each receive an internship at one of the following animation studios: Aardman Animations, The Mill and 12foot6.

    STOP MOTION:

    STUDENT
    Win a month long internship at Aardman.
    The month long internship at the legendary Aardman Animations will be under the tutorship of Merlin, Creative Director of Wallace & Gromit. The winner will be able to tailor their internship to suit their creative needs and work on ongoing Aardman productions.

    Win a top of the range laptop and Stop Motion Pro Studio HD.
    Winners will receive a top of the range laptop and a copy of Stop Motion Pro HD, a professional animator toolset which has been designed in conjunction with Aardman studios.

    CGI:
    STUDENT
    Win a two month internship at The Mill.
    Taking up a position at the London office of The Mill, you will be guided by James Farrington, an animator with over 26 years of experience. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience at the studio behind some of the world's finest CGI productions.

    Win a two month internship at cutting edge, 2D studio 12foot6.
    The two month internship at the home of Dog Judo and Modern Toss will be guided by Creative Director, Dave Anderson. You will work across 12foot6's many commercial projects, preparing you for a professional career in animation.

    The winner of the Drawn category will win a top of the range laptop and the only 2D animation software that is designed entirely from the ground up to do 2D animation professionally, Digicel Flipbook Pro HD6.
