Biografía
My name is Oliver Lee Arce and I'm a comic book artist, graphic designer and co-founder of the indy comic collective called 656 Comics. I’m a citizen of the most dangerous bordertown in the world, Cd. Juárez. I’ve published under 656 Comics, over +20 comics in the past few years and worked with various local newspapers, film makers and musicians. Our two main projects; Infestacion: The Mythology, a zombie outbreak on the borderland and Karmesi, an ex cop turned vigilante who tries to clean up the corruption and injustices’ of Cd. Juárez (which was featured in NPR’s Latino USA).
656 Comics has been accredited countless times with grants and assistance by various national, international institutions and organizations (Harvard University, US Consulate, Fonca, Ichicult, Conaculta, Fechac, Conacyt, Fortes, Tec de Monterrey, UACH, UAM) to help spread comic awareness and workshops to help aspiring writers/artists publish their work in a series of anthologies. Some of those anthologies are: Comiqueando Juarez, El Comiquero, Feminizando la Historieta and Ñañaras: Leyendas Urbanas de la Frontera. 656 Comics is not confined only to the borderland, their reach extends to various spots of the world and have attended various comic book cons and book festivals in Mexico, USA and France, also working alongside with numerous comics studios/artist in Mexico, USA, Europe and South America. Recently 656 Comics zombie epic, Infestacion: The Myhtology, was nominated for Best Alternative Comic in the 37th Festival International de la Bande Dessinee in Angouleme, France.
656 Comics is currently working again with the US Consulate in unison with Compañeros, an association dedicated to health culture, to publish an anthology with topics such as HIV prevention, safe sex and drug abuse.
