Biografie
Kete Bowers was born in Liverpool, and first picked up a guitar to teach himself to play at the age of sixteen. But, his real musical roots began at a much younger age, especially on weekends which he would spend with his Grandmother, Isobel. Kete's close bond with Isobel harkens back to the bounty of records which she would play for Kete on her old record player, while her husband was working long shifts late into the night. Great songs by Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, Johnny Ray, Roy Orbison, Jimmie Rodgers, Slim Whitman, Dolly Parton, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Jim Reeves. Take note of this line from the "classic" song, " Isobel ", wherein Kete mentions listening to " Jim Reeves on the record player. "
We are fascinated by a handful of his relatives who obviously have contributed to Kete's musical roots and legacy. Grandmother Isobel was born in 1921and passed away in1999. Of course, her impact on Kete's love for music is easy to follow. Isobel's Father ( Kete's Great-Grandfather ), Mr. Harry Pierce (1893- 1938), was known as " Banjo " Harry, a colourful man made his living as a boxer and a musician. He was well-known for playing a number of musical instruments such as the banjo, piano, guitar, harmonica, and " just about anything that he could get a tune out of ". Interestingly enough, his wife ( and Kete's Great-Grandmother ), Mary Ann (1896 - 1986), was born in Scotland. She sang in music halls for years. Kete's musical background seems to be quite rich considering these colourful musical ancestors and their accomplishments. Kete started writing his own songs in October of 2007, A better first CD would be difficult to find as Kete takes us on a soulful journey through some of life's most heartfelt emotions and experiences, to which each of us can relate. The list of songs is intriguing, and draws us closer, one by one, song by song into the singer's inner soul. Best Wishes to you as you enjoy the reminisces of " ROAD ".
