About Kenakia Simpkins

I create storytelling lyrics in songwriting that inspire and provoke individuals to look at things in a different light. Songwriter/Singer/Dancer.

Location United States, Alabama, Birmingham- Huntsville, Alabama

Bio Kenakia's love for music started very early in her life. By the time she was able to walk she knew that dancing would be second nature to her as well as her love for song. As a teenager she would enter herself into the local talent shows in her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. Kenakia later found herself performing regularly at the former French Quarters nightclub expressing herself either by song or dance. In high school though a very quiet student everyone knew about her dancing abilities. Kenakia found that her peers and teachers would call upon her with the task of being on the danceteam and choregraphing most of the rountines for Senior Class Day. However, her undying passion for music did not stop. A student at Alabama State University, she managed yet more shows around the campus of ASU. Kenakia has performed at ASU Homecoming event with then college classmate Suan aka "Delishious" of MTV's Flava of Love. Fate transferred her from ASU in Montgomery, Al, to Alabama A& M University in Huntsville, Al. From there she ventured out to other avenues of the music game. In 2004-2005 she worked for Clear Channal radio station(Power 93.3) a synicated morning show with Doug Banks. With her tenacious drive she managed to work as an intern at a radio station while simutaneously teaching Hip Hop dance classes at Saba International Dance School. While at Power 93.3 due to her accessibility to many celebrities Kenakia started to pursue another one of her longtime passions to write her own demo hip-hop magazine at that time called ALA. Now with the change of name to Epok, once released to the public, Kenakia promises it will be the hottest magazine of the deep South. She has interviewed and met Lil Scrappy, Cee-Lo, Pastor Troy, Crime Mobb, Rasheeda, Master P, Marques Houston, Gucci Man, Mac Brezzy, Young Sneed, Young Jeezy, Yung Joc, Young Dro, Big Kuntry King, Heuy, Young Bloodz, Lil Boosie, 112, Keisha Cole, Shawn Cole, X-scape, Ray Jay, Static Major (R.I.P.), Jarves, Khao(Grandhustle Beatmaker), Yin-Yang Twins, David Banner, Urban Mystic, and Roko, Rich Boy, are a few. Not satisfied with the slow pace of the South, Kenakia realized that major auditions was what she definitely needed to move to the next level of her career. In 2006 she auditioned for American Idol three times. First in Memphis, Tennesse which was cancelled due to the very needed space for Hurricane Katrina evacuees. However, Kenakia ended up auditioning in Chicago, North Carolina, and Birmingham, Al. Not even dismayed by her three attempts, Kenakia followed up the next year with more auditions. In 2007, Kenakia auditioned for Beyonce's World Wide Tour in Atlanta, Ga, and Bellarie, Texas. From there she went to Hollywood, California to one of the most sought out dance studio around- Mellinium Dance studio, where she auditioned for R/B singer Mario's Search for Dancers. In January 2008, she auditioned for Chris Zondaflex who is a long time friend and former fellow dancer of Shane Sparks, ( judge of So U Think U Can Dance). Today, Kenakia continues to improve her singing and writing skills along side former Warner Bro. producer Harold "Priest" Chisolm. Not slowing down for a minute, Kenakia is also working on her 2010 release of her Alabama base hip-hop magazine- Epok. The magazine will be based out of Birmingham, Alabama and will cater to the surrounding areas of Montgomery, Huntsville, Mobile, and Tuscaloosa. On April 29, 2010, for the very first time in Atlanta GA, Kenakia had a one-on-one meeting for songwriter deal consideration, with Sr. VP of A/R Lenny Santiago of Def Jam Records. They say it takes a lot of work to be in the music industry and Kenakia has definitely put in her share of hustling the honest way.

Influences Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Neyo, Vivan Green, Stevie Wonder, Nas, Tupac, MC Lyte, Beyonce', India Arie, Muzik Soulchild, Usher, Russell Simmons and Kimora Lee Simons are a few.
