I make lush abstract paintings that deal with everything from brute violence to sheer chromatic opulence. I have been working with the neobaroque themes of suffering, transcendence and artifice for well over a decade and my most recent series is about terrorism, war and profiteering. \"Collateral,\" pictured above, is a meditation on the profound consequences of military action and the conflicted status of the art object in a commodity driven world. The choice of pallet colors and textures refers to the bloody and flayed felshiness that accompanies the devastating impact of large and small scale weapons such as mines, missles, rocket launchers, etc., while the central black monochrome activates a space of meditation about loss and the sense of emptiness war inflicts on combatants and non-combatants alike. My gestural painting hope to evoke the feeling of the unknowable and the incalcuable - central themes of sublime experince - which are here deployed as a reaction to what cannot be known about the emotive and factual conditions of wartime experience. In additon to the work pictured here I have also produced other series of paintings about fetishism, decay and entropy. Occasionally my work is site-based and is created specifically for a gallery or museum space but it usually consists of oil paintings of one kind or another. My work is also very process-based, often making use of systems, assistants and gravity. My most recent shows have been in Berlin and California and I am looking forward to expanding my work into new venues and arenas.
