"Clutching at Straws" By Eleanor Ross
The decade of the 1980's, is synonymous with big hair, ripped jeans and neon clothing, it also saw many social changes. Wealth and production shifted to newly industrialised economies and visual arts merged with mass media. Taking inspiration from urban street culture and classic toys such as the Rubik's Cube and the Slinky, explored through the current world of street art and neon rave scene; Clutching at straws is an eclectic assortment of fine yarns, combined with brightly coloured plastics and tubes to create intricate 3D lattice like structures, and used to explore possible footwear outcomes.
