I wanted the concept to complement Portugal’s alternative sound, which has always sounded non-conformist and radically different then anything mainstream to me. I appreciate their music as being innovative and groundbreaking and thought any poster for them should reflect this quality of their music. The typographical trees are also referencing the song “The Woods”, a personal favorite of mine, as I grew up in the woods in Maryland.
This design incorporates mixed media in order to create the finished effect you see. I began by creating an etching print of anatomical legs, from there I then drew out, with pencil, the rest of the design, the trees, hips and garden. Once finished with the drawing and printing stages, I moved the illustration into Photoshop where color and textures were added for effect.
