Talenthouse

This t-shirt design for Queen is a combination of things I feel when I think of the band. Originally I thought I might design something simple, but I soon came to the conclusion that nothing about this band is simple. The quality and craft of their music has always been layered, lush, exaggerated, and fun. The band definitely has a flare for the dramatics and just a dash of absurdity, which is what has always drawn me to them. I tried to match that in the illustration by exaggerating certain elements: the larger-than-life hair, the wall of speakers behind the curtain, etc. The curtains and opera theater binoculars are both referencing A Night at the Opera, as well as the over the top performances that the band has graced us with over the years. The task of capturing the band’s grandeur was, more than anything, the most important aspect I felt I needed to tackle.
