Design artwork for Public Enemy

"Misunderstood" By Joey Furr

The idea was to take something sinister but make it look deceptively friendly. The colours instantly convey a light hearted, calming feeling, whilst the content is something rather more aggressive and intimidating.

This deals with the fact that certain cultures and music are judged by their image or the words they use without a real idea of where they come from and what they represent. This creates the feeling of a mysterious presence, watching and waiting, but their aggression is misunderstood or unknown.

About this Creative Invite

Secret 7" is giving you the chance to design original vinyl artwork for Public Enemy. The 7 music artists (Elton John, HAIM, Jessie Ware, Laura Marling, Nas and Nick Drake complete the lineup) invite creatives to design the artwork for a seven inch vinyl sleeve inspired by one of their songs. The project culminates in 700 one-of-a-kind vinyl sleeves displayed in a gallery in East London. On Record Store Day, each of the vinyls will be available to purchase with all of the profits going to the charity Art Against Knives. None of the buyers will know who created the sleeve, or even which song it's for, until they are holding it in their hands - the secret lies within. In this challenge, Public Enemy have selected the track 'Harder Than You Think’.
