"The Warning " By Brian Roedel
It came to me so suddenly the day before the dawn. What we fought was what we sought that day out on the lawn. The things we did, the secrets hid, in the afternoon. Bade farewell, the happy swell to the change that came too soon. It fooled us all, an enchanting call and took the form of smoke. We dropped our fears, clung onto our peers not a single word was spoke. Sticks and stones our only knowns to face the coming fight. Together we stood, doing all we could, to face the coming night.
