Biografie Dial up any song on Breathe Carolina’s debut CD, It's Classy, Not Classic: Each track brims with all the exuberance and anxiety of modern youth. Bristling with immediacy, these are succinct pop songs made for singing and dancing. For jumping and shouting and literally screaming.

Breathe Carolina (David and Kyle) warp the conventions of contemporary dance music. Atop the crisp beats and spacey synths of jams including \"The Birds and the Bees,\" David emits an ultramodern croon. Yet like a little devil perched on the opposite shoulder, along comes his partner and creative foil, Kyle, adding ear-splitting shrieks, barks and howls forged in the crucible of hardcore punk. This juxtaposition of personalities makes the throbbing pulse and straightforward sentiments of \"Gossip,\" and the R&B-tinged grooves of \"Diamonds,\" cut to the quick.

David and Kyle are anything but shifty hipsters retro-fitting vintage synth-pop for modern ears. Hence the album title, It's Classy, Not Classic. \"This is a unique style of music,\" says David. \"It would be one thing if I just made beats and sang over them,\" he concedes. \"But Kyle, and the screams, gives it a whole new angle. It changes everything. And that is a huge part of the appeal.\"

Fusing varied influences comes naturally to the pair, both of whom grew up in Denver, Colorado. \"When I first started listening to music, I was way into hip-hop,\" remembers David. \"Then I got into old school punk rock. Rock, pop, punk, I went through it all.\" Kyle shared a similar jumping-off point, hip-hop and punk.

Kyle, inspired by his willingness to sing, was tapped by some middle school friends to front their band. Over the years, he would refine his ability to sing and scream in a variety of punk and screamo groups. Meanwhile, David was refining his skills, playing guitar in slower, indie rock ensembles. Mutual friends drew them into each others orbit, and soon they were living in the same house.

Just for fun, David had been making beats on his computer, and laying simple vocal melodies on top. Wanting to spice up an early version of \"Put Some Clothes On,\" he didn't need to look any further than his new roommate for that little something extra.
\"Breathe Carolina just kind of happened,\" says Kyle. \"We really didn't think about it much. I was playing in another band, and so was David, but we were falling out of those. We had a lot of fun writing together, so we thought, 'Let's just do this, and see what happens.'\"

The next step took them both by surprise. In the Spring of 2007 they set up a MySpace page for their nascent project, giving it a name lifted from a dream David had (in which he kept encouraging an older woman, Carolina, to calm down in the midst of stressful circumstances). They hoped to get 20 plays a day, max. \"We really didn't expect anything,\" admits David. But almost immediately, they began building a buzz and racking up many millions of MySpace plays. Almost a year to the day after creating that MySpace page the duo inked a deal with Rise Records.

Breathe Carolina wrote and recorded It's Classy, Not Classic as a duo, with David producing, in their home studio. Although this is David's first stage venture as a vocalist, his chemistry and camaraderie with Kyle leveled the learning curve. For live shows they recruited a full band, including a guitarist, two keyboard players, and a DJ. In keeping with the initial impetus behind the group, all the players were friends, recruited from the Mile High City scene.

Honing their act in Denver proved critical to their development, too. \"Colorado is definitely open-minded,\" says Kyle. The kids here are amazing. They come out and have fun. And that is what we're all about: Dancing, kicking back and enjoying people's company. That aspect of the scene here has definitely rubbed off on us.\" In less than eighteen months, Breathe Carolina have performed at home and on tour with A Skylit Drive, Mayday Parade, Sky Eats Airplane, the Secret Handshake, A Cursive Memory, and others, as well as appearing at both Bamboozle and Bamboozle Left.

Next up, Breathe Carolina want to share that excitement with more listeners. Connecting with bigger audiences seems inevitable. \"This is really honest music, there is nothing hidden behind anything,\" concludes David. \"We don't use crazy metaphors. We're real. We say what we say. When kids listen to our music, we want them to have a good time
