Biografie
Nick Garcia has cemented himself as a master of capturing the intuitive, sensitive and provocative. He was born and raised in Barranquilla, Colombia, a land of vibrant carnival energy and mysticism, an inspiring nest for countless artists. At a very early age, he began his photography training as an apprentice under one of Colombia’s most prestigious photographers, his father Enrique Garcia. Blessed to grow up in a world of cameras and lenses, Nick gained vast knowledge of film and most importantly a passion for life and its eternal vitality in photos. To further his art he traveled to the United States at age 21 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.
Shortly after concluding his studies, Nick decided to call Miami home. He then started working with top photographers to gain a better understanding of the trade, and, of course, to travel the world. His experiences served to develop his photographic vision while nurturing his talent for capturing people and places.
Over time, Nick developed an unfailing ability to seize the fleeting essence of the moment. Today he is recognized among corporate and industry professionals for his ability to understand the intricacies of powerful images. From his studio in Miami, Nick continues to evolve as a commercial photographer focused in fashion, lifestyle, editorial work, interior design and architecture.
One of his photography rituals is working with his father during the acclaimed “Carnaval de Barranquilla” to publish the books “Caras y Mascaras” each year. Another passion is music - just don’t ask him to sing - and he’s been fortunate enough to enjoy countless hours with great musicians, not only admiring their work but also shooting their projects.
Einflüsse I believe my first recollection of influence are snapshots of memory I have from the first time I went with my father to a photoshoot, as a little boy, to the \"Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta\" in Colombia. He was my first big influence. Then the first poster in my room as a teenager was Richard Avedon's picture of Nastassja Kinski and the serpent... From then on I have been admiring many different photographers and it's hard to find something common in all of them that I like, I just admire profoundly different aspects of different great photographers. For example I profoundly like Bruce Weber's capacity to capture natural moments... his shots look effortless, so natural.... and yet again we know the work that it takes... I feel that to capture the simplicity of natural moments is a work of art... I also admire deeply Annie Leibovitz' power to create conceptual pictures, she has an incredible ability to take people out of their comfort zone.
