About Jennifer Maimone

I may only be 20 -something years old, but I have been involved in art since I was in preschool. My art started with simple line figure drawings, then cartoons of me being Peter Pan so to feed into my fantasy of being able to fly (while by then-horrible brother was Captain Hook). I even remember a time in third grade when I copied the way a girl in my class drew her women with flat heads. What was I thinking? Ah, the things a child does so to fit in. As I grew, so did my art. I used to do simple drawings of a person just standing with a smile, but then I let my art grow to where I posed them in complicated positions. I wanted to show emotion, drama, fantasy, imagination, and life. A lot of my art was seen as \\\\\"dark\\\\\" or \\\\\"scary\\\\\". I remember how the girls in my high school would elect me to help them decorate for Halloween because of my talent to make them look like something they weren\\\\\\'t. Needless to say, I did not exactly fit in with the (I guess you can call) popular people during the rest of the school year. I didn\\\\\\'t really want to, to be honest. Why would I want to trade in who I was, and the way I expressed my deep love for the Unknown and Unexplainable through my art? Many people seem to want to be surrounded by pink, happy, fluffy things that don\\\\\\'t send a feeling of forewarning down their spine when looked upon. But that is not what I like to show (most of the time). What am I doing/showing with my art as of today, at this moment in life? I attempt to show the parts of art in which people tend to try and avoid. To show what it is you hide within yourself. My Creature in the Mask pieces state it best about showing a mix of goodness and evil; of mischief and curiosity. I aim to draw you in by your curiosity to see more, though you may keep it at an arm\\\\\\'s length. My art challenges you to look beyond your comfort zone and see the \\\\\"faces\\\\\" that you try to hide, or cannot give physical form in your own mind and imagination.

**Please note: All photography of my makeup art and sculptures are all edited, shot, and finalized by me. Any time it is not edited by me, I will make it known, but otherwise all work on here is primarily through me. :-)

Location United States, California, Los Angeles County

Bio To be worked on soon!

Influences My taste in art originates back to my obsession with the Phantom of the Opera, then to The Crow with Brandon Lee, and then finalizing with my favorite show as a third grader: Gargoyles. From there, my art mainly has held an underlining dark theme, usually showing some sort of influence stemming from three I have previously mentioned. I also am influenced by the simplicity of the tribal tattoo, and have made my first Makeup Art based upon this type of tattoo.

A better description soon to come!
